Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bronx is a 16 week old Catahoula / Shar Pei mix who is house trained (doggy door). She is up to date on all shots and is spayed and currently weighs 18 lbs. I expect that she will be 35-45 lbs full grown.
I have marked Bronx as special needs because of the very specific type of home that is going to be right for her. She is going to need a very patient person/family who has no small children, preferably another medium to large sized calm dog who enjoys playing, and a large fenced in area or acreage.
Here is a bit of background on Bronx. For her first 8 weeks of existence, she had no human contact. We pulled her and her sister, Bristol from the Animal Shelter. They were absolutely ravaged by flea bites, had gooey eyes and were absolutely terrified. Another rescue group came before us and took all the other puppies but left behind these two pitiful looking girls.
Once I saw them, I knew we would take them, I mean we are a rescue after all, but I also knew they were going to come with a lot of issues, and they have. For the first 2 weeks of having them at home, I had to chase them down to catch them twice a day to administer their meds for their various infections. Bronx clearly did not want to be held and I spent 2 weeks of forcing her to cuddle with me to start to build that trust factor.
Slowly but surely, we made progress. After having them for just over 2 weeks, they were house trained (I have a doggy door and they have constant access to a fenced in lot). Bronx is being treated for demodex mange (non-contagious) and her skin has really improved.
Bronx and I have spent weeks getting to know each other and building that bond. Any new family that considers adding Bronx to their family is going to have to go through the same thing I did. She will be apprehensive at first, but once she makes that bond, it is there and it is solid. I get greeted every morning with a wagging tail and kisses. She jumps up on the couch and cuddles with me and smothers me with puppy kisses daily. She still doesn't like to get picked up, but will tolerate it.
She LOVES other dogs and enjoys wrestling and playing. She still needs to learn gentle play, as at times when they all get playing it can get a bit much, but she enjoys it and is great with other dogs. Bronx will let you cut her nails and give her a bath without any issue.
Bronx has really improved with people. She just needs to find the right person who is willing to take the time and build that bond with her, knowing the first two weeks are going to be the hardest. Everyone in the family will have to put the same effort and time into building that bond. She is just simply not your typical puppy through no fault of her own, but rather her circumstances.
She is a wonderful puppy once she gets to know you and feels comfortable. Full of wagging tails and kisses and you can also take comfort in knowing that she will always alert you to someone that she doesn't know.
She loves to be outside as well so it important for her to be able to be outside, running around and then be able to come inside and curl up on the couch or a doggy bed. We do not intend for her to be an outside dog, but rather an indoor dog with the right family.
She had a rough start in life, and I get that it is going to take a very special family who is willing to put in the time and effort it is going to take to make her a part of their family, but trust me she is WORTH it! It won't be easy. I was second guessing them myself, but once you turn that corner with her, you just feel like you have done the right thing! Please watch the video and see the Bronx that I see and check your heart to see if you have a loving and permanent home for this little girl.
Her adoption fee is $200 and she is located and fostered in Tennessee. Transportation options are available for out of state adopters for a fee. If you have any questions about Bronx, please contact us. We are more than happy to discuss her with any potential adopter.
