Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hank, whose call name is "Higgins," is a young, medium-energy male rescued by Midwest BREW from an area shelter where he strangely went unclaimed. Strange, because a more loveable dog is impossible to imagine.
As "man's best friend," Higgins is the quintessential companion dog who will follow you everywhere, listen to your every conversation, and love you unconditionally. He will find your most mundane activities fascinating. Whether you are brushing your teeth or folding laundry, you will find him sitting quietly nearby marveling at his human. Yet he is respectful of your space, is rarely underfoot (well, except in the kitchen when food appears!), and is never demanding. His mission in life is simply to be with you.
Higgins enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially on his daily walks, and greets everyone he meets--human and canine--with a joyful wag of his tail. He is wonderful with the resident senior terrier, respecting her space and food, and not excited by the cats he encounters outside. He can sit and come on command, is very nearly crate-trained and house-trained, and is quiet in the house and yard, even with barking dogs on the other side of the fence. He likes chew toys, watching out the window, and being petted from head to tail. The only thing he doesn't like, and which will set off some "Arrooos," is to be left alone--something his foster family is working on.
Higgins is a sweet and loving dog with a will to please, and he is also a bit of a clown. He occasionally gets the "zoomies", running laps around the house or yard, expending some of his youthful energy. He can be silly, like sticking his head between the pickets of the garden gate and pushing and pulling to open and close it. He can be surprising, like marching through the fish pond when called to come. And he can be enterprising, like using a patio chair to access the grooming table so he could be brushed. He sleeps upside down, rolls on his back in the grass and his bed, and can grin from ear to ear. Higgins is a happy, fun-loving little guy who will bring smiles wherever he goes.
The ideal home for Higgins would be one where someone is home most of the time--someone who will appreciate his devotion and help him with separation anxiety. Because he loves the great outdoors, and currently needs to shed a few pounds, he would do best in a securely fenced-in yard with the freedom to explore and space to exercise. Though not a requirement, Higgins would love a canine companion so he would never be alone. If you have room at your feet, on your lap, and in your heart for a loyal and devoted friend, Higgins is your man!
