Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bear is currently on a medical hold as he has several issues that need treatment prior to any adoption taking place. He needs a sponsor or two to help with vetting costs. If you can help sponsor this sweet, sweet boy please visit the CRN website at http://www.collierescuenetwork.com/financialdonations.html
Bear is between 6 - 10 years of age. Right now it's a little difficult to say exactly how old he is due to the many medical issues he has happening. ALL of them are treatable and as we go through and treat each one, to say he feels better would be an understatement! Bear has come a long, long way since his first day in rescue when he was lethargic and in obvious pain. As we work towards fixing his health issues, he has turned into a funny, happy, lovely boy who loves attention and is thrilled to be warm and cozy on his doggie bed every night!
Bear is such a sweet boy. He is affectionate and loving and so happy to be part of the family in his foster home. He's excellent with cats and is good with the dogs as well. In his furever home he will be fine as either the only dog or with a laid-back doggie friend to play toys with.
Bear's coat was matted and dirty when he arrived and someone had tried to help but cutting some of the matts out. He's been to the groomer and had a proper bath and brushing and looks great! With some time his coat will grow back out again no problem. In the meantime, we can't help think he looks cute as a button with an almost puppy-ish look! Bear knows he's a handsome boy no matter what 'do' he's rocking!
Bear will be having a dental done for his teeth. He arrived in rescue with some severe infections in his mouth. After weeks on anti-biotics and waiting for bloodwork results, he will be heading in soon for a cleaning and some extractions. He will feel SO much better when this is done!
Bear is currently heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly. This is an expensive treatment and we are hoping this sweet boy will find some kind sponsors to help cover this cost. Treating heartworm can run just over $1000 and due to the fact he also needs a dental done (also approx. $1000) along with the other smaller health issues he needed cleared up, Bear's vetting bills will amount to almost $3000 in the end, all told. Please think about sponsoring this sweet boy!
Bear has had Lyme disease in the past which appears to have been left untreated. As a result his joints are a little stiff and we've placed him on a low daily dose of Metacam. This has helped enormously and he feels much, much better. In his new adoptive home keeping him on a low dose anti-inflammatory will ensure he is comfortable. This is an easy treatment to keep up with (just squirt the medication into his food at dinnertime!).
Bear thanks everyone for considering sponsorship on his behalf! He has come a long way in rescue and his journey is just beginning! Once he is healthy he will be ready to find his furever family!
