My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lad is being fostered in Ontario.

Lad is a beautiful 5-6 year old boy who would love to find a quiet, calm place to call home. He will do best in a home without a lot of hustle and bustle and he really thrives on routine. A working couple, a single person or a retired couple will suit Lad perfectly. He would like to be an only dog and have his people all to himself, able to soak up all the love and attention on his own.

Lad needs an experienced dog owner who is familiar with herding breeds and Collies in particular. Lad has a very strong mouthing and herding drive and a home that understands mouthing and how to work with him will be needed. What Lad does NOT need is a strong disciplinarian but instead will do best with a calm influence from someone who is consistent, patient and kind with him.

Lad is an affectionate boy and loves to be the centre of attention. He really is happiest when he's just hanging out with his human friends. He is meets and greets strangers with a tail wag and is quite happy to let them tell him how beautiful he is.

Lad loves to 'play toys' with you and will bring you a toy and try to entice you into a game of tug, especially with his special carrot! He gets very excited and, like almost all Collies, gets bouncy and barky when playing. He is also a "talker" and someone used to the grumbley-growley chatter of a Collie will love Lad's version of story telling.

Lad didn't get to play with other dogs when he was young and so he is hesitant with new dogs. Once he knows a dog he is happy to play, but "play" is Lad's version of play. Many dogs find Lad annoying because he likes to nibble and mouth and poke at them with his long nose and he doesn't always read other dogs well - so is sometimes surprised when they tell him off for pestering them. All in all, Lad will only be adopted to a home where he will be an only dog but he will be fine to take for play time at a doggie park with some supervision.

Lad's foster mom says he is just a lovely boy. He is crate-trained but is also completely reliable when left alone, loose in the home. He is excellent on-leash and not reactive to people or other dogs on walks (although, remember, he IS a Collie - a herding breed - and like most Collies, sometimes skateboarders or bikes are tempting to take a run at but in a "catch the shiny fast thing" way).

Lad will make a wonderful companion for a quiet home who is looking for a buddy to take leisurely walks with (Lad is a 'stop and smell the roses' kind of boy). He will only be adopted as an only dog and will not be adopted to a home with children under the age of 18 due to his mouthing when excited. He would likely be okay with dog savvy cats and truly, just wants to be loved and given that chance to shine and make his people proud.

If you are that special home for Lad, please visit the Collie Rescue Network website at www.collierescuenetwork.com and fill in the online application found there. Please FULLY read the adoption process found on the website. A $350 adoption fee applies to all dogs adopted from Collie Rescue Network.
