My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated Bio 7/23/2014: Bailey is an 11 year young, handsome Yorkie boy, weighing 9.8 pounds and is being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

He is such a character! His Foster Dad even says Bailey is one of his all time favorites. Bailey will communicate what he wants very clearly with this unique little grunt. If he wants more food, he stands by the bowl and grunts. If he wants outside, he will paw at the door and grunt. If he wants to play, he will hold a toy in his mouth and... you guessed it, grunt. His bossy grumbling is keeping his foster family entertained. If the other dogs in the house are playing while Bailey is trying to nap, he will growl in disapproval to quiet them down without lifting his head or opening an eye. These may be some of his funny little quirks, but Bailey is not always a grumpy old man. He LOVES to play with his toys. When he is in the mood (he is always the one who decides) Bailey will chase the other little dogs around or tease and taunt them with a toy he doesn't want to share.

Bailey's perfect day would be playing fetch or chase for a bit, curling up on your lap for a nap while getting his belly rubbed or his back lightly petted, waking up for a meal and a trip outside, then repeat. He is still struggling with his chronic skin condition which makes him itchy all over. Sometimes poor Bailey can scratch and scratch for so long it gives him open sores. He is eating a special diet to reduce the effect of food allergies. He is also getting medicated bathes with special shampoo every few days. We did figure out one trick that has helped more than anything else... CLOTHES! Sweet little Bailey not only looks adorable in his small t-shirts but they keep him from scratching a raw area under his arms. Since the skin is less irritated by the scratching, he seems to scratch a little less than before his daily outfits started. Woohoo!

Bailey has cataracts in both eyes but he is not blind. We can tell he doesn't see as well in the dark, and sometimes he startles easily if he doesn't hear you coming BUT if you throw a toy with other dogs around... suddenly Bailey has eagle eyes and the race is on. He doesn't see well enough to be trusted around a pool alone or a lot of stairs, but he is also the first dog to find the puppy stairs up to the bed at night and tuck himself into the blankets.

Bailey needs a best friend to hang out with for the rest of his life. He is a pretty relaxed and low-key kind of guy who still likes to play and explore. He needs regular lap time, belly and neck rubs to keep him smiling and a bath or two each week to help with all of that itchy skin. Bailey will thank you with the best kisses! Will you be his best bud?

Initial Bio 6/23/14:

Welcome Bailey! He is a mature Yorkie boy at 11 years old, 9.8 pounds and being fostered in Clearwater, FL.
