Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Maye is a small little 2 to 3 year old cutie about 17 lbs. She appears to be a dachshund/chihuahua mix as she has a long but small body and really short legs. Much shorter than they appear in these photos. Maye was in foster care in Beaufort, SC for a couple of months where she is did really well. Foster mom says when kept inside the house she tends to be quiet but when outside she likes to run and chase things. She is house trained and also loves staying inside where she can stretch out and nap under the kitchen table. She loves being petted and playing with toys. Maye might be happiest as the only dog in the home but that depends on the other dog. She is a really sweet, petite, adorable little girl who will be a great pet for someone wanting a small dog. She recently went through treatment for heartworms and is clear now, up to date on all shots, microchipped, and spayed. What more could you want???? Maye's foster mom says she could call Maye a "cuddlebug". She loves to be held, rubbed, bathed. Is not a chewer except for fabric leashes but will carry your shoes across the room. Maye would love to sleep in the bed which she has done with foster twice during the night when thunderstorms. Maye loves being outside too and will roam the yard, chase squirrels and is very cute when she points. Very funny to watch her go crazy sometimes running in circles. She rides well in the car and the golf cart. She tolerates the foster's cat. They spat on occasion but only for a second. Foster feels Maye would be an excellent dog in an apartment especially for a single person or older person who wants a small dog. Maye is crate trained and kennel trained. She walks well on a leash. She is curious and sometimes barks which usually means I MISS YOU and want attention. Other notes from foster: 1. Walk her outside after 9pm and she is good until 7 to 8 am. 2. Loves belly rubs and laying at your feet on a towel under the kitchen table. 3. Trained to run, kennel, crate and free roam. Happiest when she can see you. 4. Good with cat. Took two weeks to be calm with the border collie.
5. Does better with leash on harness rather than collar due to fast starts and dead stops. 6. Likes cottage cheese, yogurt and chicken. 7. Recommend an indoor crate, large size for a "safe haven' when needed. 8. Hates thunder and needs comfort. 9. Sits for meals and treats. 10. Responds to shart commands Come, No, Stop. 11. Barking is usually for attention getting or approaching storm. 12. Rub the belly, rub the belly! Massage the feet and ears. She is happy to sit in your lap and snuggle in bed. Your first step in adopting Maye is to fill out an adoption application. All information on the application must be completed including phone numbers and a vet reference (an old one, or a reason why there is not one) before it will be processed. Additional references and information describing your experience with dogs and why you would like to adopt Maye are encouraged. Please contact Margaret at 843-869-3869 or martowe514@gmail.com for an adoption application, more information or to set up a date and time to meet this precious dog! Thank you for your interest in Maye. She is a real cutie!
