Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
As he stood on the line at New Holland, he wondered how he got there. Frightened and alone he did everything asked of him, even being ridden through the auction – he never took a wrong step.
Somehow he knew he was in trouble – this wasn’t a good place to be. Soldier didn’t know what was going to happen, but It is obvious by his “battle scars” he’d been through a lot. As luck would have it, someone bought him and got him out of there. Now he was on a farm, with a friend and he was safe – right?
The reality is that Soldier is living on borrowed time and he doesn’t even know it. If a home isn’t found for him soon he will be sent back to the sale to try his luck again with the kill buyers.
Soldier’s need is urgent. We are all trying to find him a place to go –even temporarily until we can find him a permanent home. We would like to take him here, but all TPR funds have already been devoted to horses like Mint, Midnight and Sharon. One of the saddest things about our work is that there is always another – and another.
This boy does need some rehab, but is in basic good health and was ridden at the sale and quite a sweet and well behaved boy. What he needs now is a chance and some TLC.
The girl who contacted me about him and who is his appointed contact is trying to help, please approach this situation with positive input. Negativity and attacks are not going to help Soldier out of this situation and they may even facilitate his being returned to the auction. At present the farm is keeping him so we have a chance to find him a safe haven.
From his caretaker: “Soldier has a sweet puppy-dog personality and is one of the calmest TB’s I’ve ever seen. Soldier stands a bit over 16.3 hands and we estimate he is about 18 years old. He is sound barefoot and can be ridden (w/t/c) (most likely no jumping because of vision). He has no vices. He can be handled by beginners as long as they are aware that he has some vision issues. Soldier is perfectly happy being groomed (not sensitive in the back or belly). He is believed to be completely blind in one eye and partially in the other, but it doesn’t seen affect him much!”
His connections have not been able to read his tattoo, but they are working on it.
He is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Please contact me if you can help or have any ideas on how we can save this sweet boy.
