Here's what the humans have to say about me:
JOEY: This 3-year-old purebred Chihuahua is a happy, bouncy, playful, boy whose tail is always wagging. He is just so unbelievably cute, with his adorable cowlick and his inquisitive face that looks up at you asking what's next on the agenda. Some of his favorite things:
• Playing tug with squeaky toys.
• Sleeping under the covers.
• Riding in the car.
• Going for long walks (and don't you dare think that he can't keep up!).
• Chewing on bones that are as big as he is.
• Going for zoomies around the yard.
• Sitting on the back of the couch and looking out the window.
Joey was surrendered by a family that got another dog and didn’t want Joey anymore. He came to us with virtually no training or socialization, so we were essentially starting from scratch. Now he is over 90% housebroken and even is trustworthy loose in the house by himself. He is working on his basic commands and is doing well with that, and his house manners are excellent. He just needs his new owner to keep him going in this direction with gentle and consistent training. He gets along well with cats and other dogs.
There is one thing, however, that you need to know about Joey: he doesn’t like clean-shaven men. On the other hand, he LOVES all women and men with grey hair and long grey beards. (He also loved Santa, even though his beard is white; Joey is no dummy and wasn’t about to get on the naughty list!) We have Joey with a professional trainer who is working on this, and he is making slow and steady progress with the clean-shaven boyfriend of his foster owner, so we think -- think -- that with continued training he will come to accept beardless men with whom he lives, but it's going to take a lot of time. For visitors, may we suggest that you keep costume beards on hand?
Like all WAG animals, Joey is neutered and fully up-to-date on vet care. WAG only accepts applications from New Hampshire residents and from residents of communities in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts that are on the New Hampshire border. If you live in our service area and are interested in applying to adopt Joey, a WAG adoption application can be found at http://www.wearewag.org/adopt.htm.
