Comments: Chelsey is a doll! Obviously, Chelsey is not a little dog, so not what we usually take into the LDBHR family, but when we met her at the shelter and found out she was in danger, we couldn't leave her behind. She was just too incredibly sweet and perfect! Chelsey really has a lot going for her. She is beautiful and a wonderful size- not too big and not too small. She defines the phrase that 'All dogs are lap dogs if they try hard enough.' ;-) She tends to be very submissive with people and just melts if anyone is willing to give her attention. She is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and is an all-around genuinely happy girl. We think she would make a wonderful animal-assisted therapy dog because she loves people and hugs and attention. Chelsey is looking for a family who is willing to give her the daily exercise most dogs need. Don't get the impression that she's incapable of settling down, though. Give her a chew and she will find herself a spot near you and go to town, or if you are in the mood for a cuddle, she is ready and willing! A daily walk or two and she's good, though she would be a great running or biking partner if you want one. Chelsey loves her foster siblings and is pleasant meeting strange dogs on and off leash in public. Chelsey has gone on several playdates with dogs of both sexes that are around her size and is good at making friends. She REALLY loved playing with a male Border Collie who understood those herding games! She does not especially appreciate dogs that are overly rough with her or continually try to climb on her- she doesn't think that's very ladylike! She will do great in a home with other dogs as she makes friends very easily, and we think she would be happiest in a home with a dog looking for a buddy. If you want Chelsey to be an only dog, she will need a lot of human company and doggie playdates. She is definitely a Velcro pup!
Chelsey is a very easy keeper. She does not mark in the house and is very reliable as long as you don't leave her loose unattended and you accompany her into the yard to go potty. This shouldn't be an issue, as she goes right in her crate when asked, so is easy to confine when nobody can be with her. Foster auntie has fallen asleep on the couch a few times while babysitting overnight and Chelsey has just slept on her dog bed beside her with no accidents. Her foster sisters have shown her the wonders of squeaky toys, and although a few have lost their stuffing in the process, we are thrilled she is learning how to play with them. Chelsey knows how to sit on command and is very responsive to what you want. If you tell her she's walked away from you far enough, she turns right around and comes back. Chelsey even sat patiently and waited for her foster auntie to clean up a whole bowl of dog food that was spilled on the floor when she hadn't even had breakfast! She just wants to please you. She does like to give hugs, but she doesn't bounce into or off of you when she does it. She also likes to give you kisses on your chin if you'll let her. She wants very much to lay on the furniture, but is learning to stay on the floor. If you are looking for a pup to cuddle up to on the couch, Chelsey will be in 7th Heaven! She runs right up the dog ramp into her foster auntie's car and into her crate, and is learning that car rides can mean fun things. If you or any of your friends are looking for an all-around wonderful companion, please consider Chelsey. She can’t wait to start forever with her family so fill out an application today at http://www.littledogsbigheartsrescue.com/adoption-application/!
