Comments: Chelsey is a doll! Obviously, Chelsey is not a little dog, so not what we usually take into the LDBHR family, but when we met her at the shelter and found out she was in danger, we couldn't leave her behind. She was just too incredibly sweet!
Chelsey really has a lot going for her. She is beautiful and a wonderful size- not too big and not too small. She defines the phrase that 'All dogs are lap dogs if they try hard enough.' ;-) She tends to be very submissive with people and just melts if anyone is willing to give her attention. She is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and is an all-around genuinely happy girl. Chelsey is looking for an active family who likes to run, bike, hike, or take long walks daily. She would probably love obedience classes and/or some other fun training. Don't get the impression that she's incapable of settling down, though. Give her a chew and she will find herself a spot near you and go to town, or if you are in the mood for a cuddle, she is ready and willing!
Chelsey has been living with a male dog slightly larger than she is in her temporary foster home and she enjoys playing with and herding him. She has also been interested in but very respectful of the handful of small dogs she has spent time with and pleasant meeting strange dogs on leash in public. She does not especially appreciate dogs that are rough with her- she doesn't think that's very ladylike! She will do great in a home with other dogs. If you want Chelsey to be an only dog, she will probably be fine with that, too, but will need a lot of human company. She is definitely a Velcro pup!
Chelsey is a very easy keeper. She never chews or destroys anything in the house that wasn't given to her to chew and doesn't even counter surf. She does have a funny little habit of sometimes pulling blankets and/or towels down onto the floor, but she then just leaves them there. We think she is an interior decorator at heart! ;) Chelsey does not mark in the house and is very reliable as long as you don't leave her loose unattended and you accompany her into the yard to go potty. This shouldn't be an issue, as she goes right in her crate when asked. She hasn't shown much interest in toys, but we are really hoping she will learn all about them. She has played with other dogs around her, but doesn't really seem to know how to play with people- we think her former owner was not very interactive with her. Chelsey knows how to sit on command and is very responsive to what you want. If you tell her she's walked away from you far enough, she turns right around and comes back. If you ask her not to touch another dog, she walks away. Chelsey even sat patiently and waited for her foster auntie to clean up a whole bowl of dog food that was spilled on the floor when she hadn't even had breakfast! She just wants to please you. She does like to give hugs, but she doesn't bounce into or off of you when she does it. She also likes to give you kisses on your chin if you'll let her. She wants very much to lay on the furniture, and her foster family is working on that. If you are looking for a pup to cuddle up to on the couch, Chelsey will be in 7th Heaven!
If you or any of your friends are looking for an active companion, please consider Chelsey. She can't wait to start forever with her family! She can't wait to start forever with her family!
