Freckles has been at the Jersey Animal Coalition for over 3 years. She's one of the absolute favorites among the staff and volunteers, but she desperately needs a home and person to call her own. When she arrived at the shelter she was happy and carefree and loved to play with other dogs. She has since become very nervous, anxious and startles easily. She also seems very afraid of active lively dogs, although she will behave well with calmer ones. She has been seen by a professional trainer and they evaluated her as a special needs dog who needs to get out of the shelter and into a loving caring home ASAP so she can recover from the stress of shelter life. Freckles is only 5 years old and hopefully has many years ahead of her. She has so much love and affection to give and just needs the right person to give it to. It is hard to imagine a dog more loving, affectionate and willing to please. She loves to greet everyone in sight when she is out on her walks. She can sit on command and takes treats gently, no matter how eager she is to receive them. She loves to go for long walks, play with a ball and romp in a field. She has become very attached to the volunteers and staff at the shelter and showers them with hugs and kisses. But what she really needs is her own special person. We simply can't understand how a dog this wonderful was left to fend for herself. She was found as a stray and never claimed by anyone. What we do know for sure is that Freckles will make someone a very affectionate and loving companion, once she gets out of the shelter and into a new environment. Freckles would probably be better off in a home with no other pets or very young children but may get on well with a calmer older dog. WonâÂÂt you consider either fostering or adopting her and giving her a second chance? A pre-adoption form is required prior to adopting any of our pets. It can be found at: www.jaconline.org
