Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Scarlett- Terrier/Lab mix approximately 5 ½ yrs. old
Scarlett is a super sweet loving girl who lived in a cage for four years at the Jersey Animal Coalition in South Orange, NJ. Prior to shelter life, she was abused or neglected as she came in emaciated and full of cuts, burns, and scars. She has been living in a temporary foster home since the shelter closed and has adapted to home life quickly.
Scarlett is looking for an experienced shelter dog owner who understands that after all that time living in a cage she needs to be desensitized to strangers and other activities of daily life, until she becomes comfortable again.
Her foster family says she is very loving and low maintenance. She plays with her toys or sleeps while her family is at work. She only needs a couple of walks a day and lots of love to be happy and well behaved. She is full of personality, playfulness, and once she bonds with someone and establishes that trust, she is extremely affectionate and devoted.
A home without lots of visitors would be best for now as she works through her fearfulness and guarding issues. She is receiving professional training and her trainers say ‘she is a great dog who deserves a chance as she has so much good in her despite her tough life.’ Her foster family reports that they see steady progress with each day.
Scarlett just needs a quiet place where she can be loved and slowly introduced to being a dog again. She is particular with other dogs and requires a proper introduction with them. With knowledge and experience, these behaviors are manageable.
