Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTERED IN RALEIGH NC
Who doesn't love a cupcake?! We sure do! Cupcake is just as sweet as her name, she is happy and friendly and enjoys everyone she meets. She is a 7 month old Pit Bull Terrier(~DOB February 2014), she has a solid white body with red brindle eye patches/ears and beautiful greenish gold eyes. She is a petite, athletic size, only weighing 28lbs. We don’t anticipate she’s going to get much bigger, she will probably weigh around 40lbs or less as an adult. She is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention. She is already spayed, microchipped and ready to go to her new home!
Cupcake is currently being fostered with several dogs, cats and birds and has done well. Although she seems to be ok with her foster cats and birds, an outdoor squirrel or bunny may catch her attention. She has a good recall, but she does have some prey drive and chasing things that run is fun! Also her prey drive may develop more as she ages. She plays well with other dogs, but needs a well matched playmate that can keep up with her excited energy. Initially, she was a little reserved when trying to play with other dogs but now at 7 months - she is completely out of her shell! She is 100% play monster and wants to play all the time. She sometimes does not respond to other dogs signals that want to end play, so an owner that can make sure she stays respectful of other dogs is a must.
Cupcake loves to play fetch and is learning quickly to bring the ball back and drop it. She would make a good candidate for dog sports or for a family that loves the outdoor life. She's eager to learn and please, she will be a great dog once she gets over the "puppy hood" hump. She's learning basic commands, "sit", "come", "down", "stay" and "crate". She's also trained to trot on a treadmill and that helps a lot to exercise her on rainy days. She rides well in the car and enjoys going to new places and socializing with new people. She travels almost daily to "doggie daycamp" at her foster mom's work. She is food motivated and takes treats gently. She likes to chew on several types of bones and rawhides and that will keep her entertain for hours. She is crate trained and she is doing well with her housebreaking, but needs to be crated indoors when no one is home. She is trusted to stay loose overnight and she loves to sleep in bed with her foster siblings. When Cupcake is a year old, she can be tested for her Canine Good Citizens (CGC), we think she would do really well at achieving this certificate. She walks nicely on leash, rarely pulls, presents good eye contact and rarely jumps up when greeting people.
Before coming to Annabelle's Second Chance:
Cupcake was found in rural eastern NC by a good Samaritan, days after an animal attack (May 2014). The treating vet feels that the attack was by a canine. We'll never know what really happened to her, but life is tough when you're alone and hungry. She may have wandered onto a dog's property that didn't appreciate her presence or she may have been attacked over a roadside meal. She was badly hurt and in desperate need of help. After getting all stitched up and back to health, she was placed in our foster program. She has several scars on her front right leg and a large scar across the back of her neck. It's all cosmetic now, the past is far behind her and she's enjoying life while waiting for a home to call her own.
