Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Shane! Shane started out as a timid, scared boy in a high kill shelter in South Carolina. He was first on the euthanasia list due to overcrowding of the shelter, and one of our volunteers happened to be there that day and decided he was just way too sweet and young to die. She brought Shane home and he has filled her home with laughter, antics, silliness, and fun!
Shane weighs 60lbs and has a very thick, long coat like a Golden Retriever. His face resembles that of a Flat Coated Retriever, and he LOVES the water like a Labrador Retriever! Once in a home, Shane came out of his shell and is definitely not as timid as first thought. Once he got out of the shelter his personality and energy blossomed!. His foster mom thinks he has probably spent all of his life chained outside. He was not housebroken at first but now he is, and goes to the door when he needs to go outside. He is happily learning other indoor manners also. He is very curious about everything and is learning the difference between what he can play with, and what is off limits. He is a very gentle dog with a tremendous heart! Shane puts his heart into everything he does, whether it is chewing up something he shouldn't, or trying to get in the shower with his foster mom because he loves water so much, or cuddling with her on the couch. Shane is ALL HEART! His energy and zest for life are contagious!
Shane LOVES everyone! Shane has never met anyone he did not like, four or two legged. He is currently in a foster home with other dogs of all ages, sizes, shapes, and sexes, and does well with all of them. He does like to play A LOT with other dogs, but is very gentle even when trying to get his 10 lb foster brother to play. Shane is 60lbs of clumsy, lovable goof, and will keep his new family entertained with his silly antics!
He would do best in a home with another dog who likes to play, or a VERY active family that loves water sports and will take him along. He needs another dog or active family to burn off all his puppy energy. When he is exercised properly on a regular basis, Shane is a model citizen. Otherwise, he will get bored, and that is when he is apt to find things to get into or carry around. He will need a family with patience to teach him all the things he has missed out on in his young life. He is very affectionate and loves to be talked to when being petted. He fancies himself a lap dog and loves to lay on or against you with his head resting on your chest or shoulder. He has very soulful eyes and is always smiling. He will require some patience. Despite being a year old, he acts very much like a younger puppy. Shane is very inquisitive about all the things around him. With some training, he will be a great family pet! He is eager to please, and has already learned to sit and shake and is currently mastering "stay". He enjoys carrying toys all around the house. He definitely has the retriever love for playing fetch and already has a favorite ball. If you are looking for a happy, sweet and loving dog, Shane is your boy. With some encouragement and love, he is going to be an amazing addition to any family! If you are the person/family who can show this gentle guy what it means to be part of a fun, loving family, please email for an adoption application. An application is not a commitment, so email today to request one if you are even a little interested!
Interested adopters email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an adoption application. Adopters are subject to reference check, vet reference, meet and greet, and home visit. Adoption fee applies.
