Here are some words from the foster family for TOPAZ:
"This past spring, a one-woman rescue group called for our help. She had found nearly 60 cats and kittens locked in an abandoned, rotting house. The animals had been left to die without food, water, or care of any kind. We said we'd try to take a few of the neediest cases.
And here begins Topaz's story.... A STAF volunteer had filled a few carriers with a couple cats & kittens she felt needest us the most and was ready to head back to the shelter. She was just about out the front door when a little "mew" came from within a filthy, dilapidated couch. Next, a little orange head poked from underneath; an emaciated kitten with a hole in her face. The kitten scurried back to her hiding place, but after a few minutes, she poked her head out again, repeating her little cry for help. With a deep breath, the volunteer took a chance, blindly reached under the couch, and brought out our Topaz.
Topaz definitely had issues to overcome. She was nearly starved to literal death. She had an abcess covering one side of her face. Yet, from the second we brought her home, we knew that with a little care and love, she'd be just fine. Today Topaz is becoming the beautiful jewel we knew she'd be. A ten-month-old Oriental Short-hair mix, she's growing to be an exquisite cat. She has the most unique deep orange coat, with marbled tabby markings, and gorgeous copper eyes. She adores human contact, becoming fast friends with everyone she meets, rumbling with purrs of contentment. She seems to know she's a lucky girl. We wonder if she knows how lucky we are to have been able to be part of her rescue."
