Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bud is a 3 year old red, smooth standard male dachshund. He is very overweight; currently weighing in at nearly 28 pounds. He should be about 21 pounds; so a big task for him during his rescue stay will be weight loss.
Bud's owner had to sell her home and go into assisted living and could not take Bud with her. Some devoted friends worked on finding alternatives for Bud so he would not be taken to the animal shelter in the small community in which the owner lived.
Bud was already neutered, which was great! He is having his teeth cleaned this week and will be microchipped. He will need to lose at least half of his excess weight before he can go to a new home; we estimate him being ready around mid-April.
Bud is a genial fellow who fits in wherever he goes. He could be a good match for a family with children 8 years old and over or pretty much anyone else who is a responsible, loving pet owner. His congenial nature will make him welcome anywhere he goes! He is looking forward to being someone's wonderful "Buddy"--are you that household that can do that for Bud?
Can you give Bud a loving, permanent home with lots of attention? If so, read the rest of the information below and then contact us for an adoption application. Please be aware that our adoption applications are sent out by postal mail only, and are not sent by e-mail nor are they available on-line.
UPDATE 2/9: Bud's foster Mom adores Bud and has this to report: "WHO'S YOUR BUDDY? Bud is an absolutely delightful dog! He is friendly and seeks attention and reassurance, and gets along fine with the other dachshunds in the household. He also has taken absolutely no interest in the pet parrots, so he'll probably get a long well with non-canine pets, too.
"Bud does seem to sense a change in his life, and appears to miss his former family and doggie siblings. He wanders around the house whimpering slightly, looking around as if he's hoping to find his family. Gentle reassurance and a few tummy scratches seem to make him feel better.
"As you can see, Bud is significantly overweight. He's on a strict diet and exercise program. He went for a short walk in the neighborhood and walked extremely well on a leash. He's actually quite quick and agile despite his weight. He slept through the night with only a few whimpers.
"Bud has adorable 'worry furrows' on his forehead (like many dachshunds have) but we're not taking him in for Botox treatments just yet! They're so cute, we're sort of hoping they'll remain after he loses his weight.
"If you want a sweet, cuddly, easy going dachshund to love uopn, look no further than Bud!"
