Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Toby, an Aussie/Golden Retriever Mix weighing in at 66 pounds of gorgeous love. He joined the rescue in November 2013 and has come a long way since then! He is a very mellow dog that enjoys relaxing almost as much as he loves going crazy in the snow. He likes hanging outside just watching the world, and occasionally starts talking with neighborhood dogs when they all start yelling at each other.
He is learning to play fetch with ball and Frisbee, but tends to get bored after a few throws. He likes to play a little tug, but REALLY he lives for a belly rub! Toby has a great Sit, Stay, Lay Down, Off, Out and is 100% house trained. He has the bladder the size of an elephant.. and rarely “begs” to go outside… but is super excited when offered! He is crate trained and goes inside without a fuss. He is doing well with Heel and leash work, but when excited tends to try and pull unless reminded of his manners. His recall is a work in progress at about 70%, but he is coming along nicely.
Toby is a bit excitable when meeting new people, and tends to put on quite the show when someone comes to the door. He does best in a controlled meeting, but is doing better with each new person he meets. He met a 5 month Aussie Toy puppy recently and did really well. He met well and just wanted to play, but you can imagine the puppy was a bit unsure of this Monster Hair Ball trying to pounce!
He is a herder and tends to chase cats.. he is living with a cat currently, but would probably do better if he were in a non cat house. If the cat were a strong personality (mine simply runs) and didn't run it may be fine.. but he sees a running cat as something that needs to be “herded”.
When Toby came to us he was sick with a Tick Borne disease called Anaplasmosis. It made him very lethargic due to feeling bad and gave him sore joints. He is almost done with his medication and is doing MUCH better. He will have a full recovery with no long term effects! He has developed a few “Lick Spots” on his legs that are healing. When he was feeling so sick, he developed a habit of licking himself to soothe himself to sleep at night. Just another story as to why you MUST keep those pets safe from Ticks!
If you want a great and mellow Aussie, and can provide control, socialization and structure in his life. You have found your perfect dog.. this Handsome guy is the companion of your dreams! Visit www.aussierescuemidwest.org to fill out an adoption application!
