Here's what the humans have to say about me:
All HSWA dogs are in foster homes and need an appointment to be seen. Please call 205-554-0011 or email humaneswa@yahoo.com to request an appointment to see the dog/puppy and to check availability. Before choosing a pet, we recommend meeting the pet or asking questions first.
This mature southern belle is Maddie, a 10-year-old female Shih Tzu. She has a salt and pepper grey/black/white coat which will need routine grooming, since the coat will grow long and can get matted if not brushed or cut regularly. Maddie is small, weighing only 11 pounds. She was pulled from our local animal shelter, where she had been surrendered by her owner due to their health. Poor girl doesn’t understand why she is not still in her home of 10 years! Because of her age, the shelter asked us to pull her out. Unfortunately, there is age discrimination when it comes to adopting! But let us tell you, Miss Maddie is young at heart and has a lot of zip and energy for a ten-year-old dog. Smaller breeds like Maddie's tend to live much longer, so she could easily have 5 to 7 more years in her. We sure hope so! Maddie is very sweet and loving and yes, a lap dog. She really needs to get back into a home environment. Maddie should be fine with children age 8 and older, seems to do well with other dogs and needs to be an inside dog. We are told she is house trained, and we know she does well in her crate at night. Maddie is up to date on her vet care, spayed, heartworm-negative, and is microchipped. She is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Such a fine little dog! We will find her that perfect home to live out the rest of her life in!
Our adoption fee is $75. Read more information on our adoption process. Then, if you feel your home might be the right forever home and you would like to adopt a dog, submit an adoption application or email us at humaneswa@yahoo.com for more info.
