My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated Bio 1/18/2015
Hey there everypuppy! My name is Scout and I'm a handsome 6 yr. old 14 lb. Silky Terrier who is currently being fostered in TN but am on my way to FL. I am a happy fellow who is full of lots of love to give! I am still searching for my Forever Home, in the meantime I am truly enjoying my stay with my foster family. They have three other doggies for me to play with and even a cat. We have so much fun hanging out together. Foster mom says I have Diabetes so I have to get Insulin shots twice a day. I don't mind because I always get yummy food before the shot so I don't even notice it! I have a hard time seeing as well as my foster doggies because of the diabetes, but I think I get around great! I even can find my ball and bounce it all over the house, it is my favorite game! I am housetrained, but since I hate being trapped in a crate, when my foster parents are gone I wear something called a Bellly Band just in case I can't hold it till they get back. No biggie, it's nice to have another option because when you gotta go, well you gotta go! I am really excited to meet my new Forever Family!! I need someone who will love and care for my diabetic needs and who has the time and energy to love me forever and ever and ever.... I am patiently waiting to meet you!!

Updated Bio 11/05/2014: Meet Scout! He is a 6 year old, 14 lb. Silky Terrier Who is coming to Florida.
SCOUT NEEDS YOUR HELP.
Scout is a wonderful dog with a gentle, loving soul. He has a look in his eyes that shows the love, loyalty and gratitude he feels for having been rescued. But Scout has a problem……… You see, through no fault of his own, Scout is a victim of canine diabetes. He did nothing to deserve it…..HE IS SUCH A GOOD BOY…… but twice a day, for the rest of his life he will need insulin injections to stay alive.
Scout’s former owner was no longer able to care for him and was considering euthenasia when United Yorkie Rescue stepped in to save him. You see……..Scout DESERVES to live……He is a happy, playful boy who follows his “people” everywhere, cuddles up by their feet, and spends days and days following them around like a young pup.
Since coming into UYR Scout now receives the utmost love, care and medical attention that he needs to have his best life. SADLY……. it takes more than the love of his devoted foster family to give him the life he deserves. It takes MONEY…..quite a bit of it too: $50 a month for special insulin, $15 a month for the syringes and needles needed to administer it, an additional amount for diabetic testing supplies, $30 a month for a high quality diet to keep his blood sugars at an acceptable level. So yes, it takes money to own and care for a diabetic dog. It requires more vet visits and sometimes a specialist to make sure everything is on track. However…….if Scout receives the care he deserves, he is likely to have the healthy and happy life that he deserves.
Remember when I said SCOUT NEEDS YOUR HELP! Here’s where you come in……..there are MANY ways you can help Scout.
1. ADOPT. The biggest and MOST important thing Scout needs is that special, FOREVER HOME from someone who is willing to accept his illness and be willing and able to care for his diabetes for the rest of his life. He is used to getting his insulin twice a day and sits perfectly quietly. Administering insulin is NOT HARD….ask any human who has Type 1 diabetes. HOWEVER Scout needs a FOREVER FAMILY that has the financial resources to give him the care he needs. LOVING SCOUT will not be a problem! This sweet boy will have ANYONE with a heart madly in love with him at FIRST SIGHT. PLEASE CONSIDER giving this special boy a look and ask yourself if YOU COULD BE THAT SPECIAL FAMILY that Scout so desperately needs……..

If you are NOT that family, then we understand……It is a big commitment and not one to be taken lightly BUT THERE IS STILL SOMETHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP.
2. DONATE. UYR is committed to Scout for the LONG HAUL…….both financially and emotionally. We have already found him a WONDERFUL FOSTER FAMILY who loves and adores him until we find that perfect FOREVER HOME. In the interim……. If you can HELP US to HELP SCOUT by donating EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT towards his ongoing care then both Scout and UYR would be SO VERY GRATEFUL. Your donation will be used to purchase insulin and testing supplies, keep him on a high quality diet, and to help fund vet visits.

3. SHARE. If you can’t donate now, we understand that too. Even $1.00 helps, but if you can’t today then do so when you can. But if you could share Scout’s story with others who might be able to help him then it could make the world difference to Scout by allowing us to continue to help him.
