Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATED BIO 08/18/2014: BROWNIE is an adorable 13 y/o Silky Terrier who weighs 12.5 lbs; he is being fostered in The Villages, FL.
Brownie is doing amazingly well! He has discovered all the lizards and frogs in the yard and is a great hunter! He loves being outdoors and going on walks. This is one active dog. He jumps over the threshold when coming into the foster home, and also loves to play with toys. Brownie gets along with both large and small dogs and also kitty cats. He is very easy-going and also loves to play with toys, but we are working on the “bring it” and “drop it” commands, lol! Now, don’t think Brownie is an “old man” at 13 years young – he is in top-notch shape and can walk much longer and faster than FM! He can jump up on the sofa just fine, although his foster parents don’t encourage that; they would prefer that he ask to be picked up and he is catching onto that quickly.
Brownie especially loves his Foster Dad and recently FD had to go into the hospital. He missed him so much and liked to stay by the door that FD uses to come into the house. He was sooooo happy when FD came home that he gave him lots of kisses and stayed close to his side.
Because Brownie had bladder stones that were determined to be Calcium Oxalate stones, he will need to have RX food for the rest of his life to discourage the recurrence of stones. However, even with RX food, lots of water and monitoring, the recurrence rate of this type of stone is 20-40% within 2 years. The vet advises that the best way to help to prevent stones from forming is continuing to feed canned Royal Canin SO food, along with lots of free choice water and an ultrasound every 4-6 months. The ultrasound can find small stones, which can be flushed out before surgery is needed.
Brownie is house-trained and will either bark or go to the back door when he needs to go out. If his foster parents don’t pay attention, he will come to FM and get up on his hind legs and paw at the air with his front paws – so darn cute!
Please don’t turn away from Brownie because of his age – he is very active and loving and would be a perfect little gentleman for an empty-nester or retired couple.
UPDATED BIO 04/26/2014: BROWNIE is an adorable 13 y/o Silky Terrier who weighs 12.5 lbs; he is being fostered in The Villages, FL.
Brownie has fully recuperated from his recent cystotomy; 10 stones were successfully surgically removed from his bladder. Poor Brownie has probably had this issue for at least a year, straining to urinate and having to urinate often ~ his urine was flled with blood. But he is all better now and his true trusting and loving personality has definitely emerged now that he is feeling better.
Brownie is a true gentleman who waits for Foster Mom or Dad to exit a door first, and then will exit behind; he also walks like a champ on the leash now. He pulled a bit at first, but with a little correction, he is now perfect on the leash. He loves loves loves long walks and is always eager to go on them. Brownie wants to please his person so much that a small correction, usually only 1-2 times, is all that is needed. He is house-trained and will either bark or go to the back door when he needs to go out. If his foster parents don’t pay attention, he will come to FM and get up on his hind legs and paw at the air with his front paws – so darn cute!

Update 03/18/14: Poor Brownie. Had to have a cystotomy and two of the stones were in his urethra - ouchie! He had 10 total stones in his bladder. And he had a dental. And a neuter. And he is 13 years old. Hope his recovery is uneventful. Bless his heart..
INITIAL BIO 03-13-2014 MEET BROWNIE! Brownie is an adorable 13 year old Silky Terrier who weighs 12-1/2 lbs; he is being fostered in The Villages, FL.
Brownie was reluctantly surrendered by his owners because a member of the household was allergic to him. He was very well cared-for and loved in the only home he has ever known. His best friend was the kitty cat, who also had to be re-homed and he misses her very much. Brownie is a very active senior dog! He is house-trained and will also use pee-pee pads on rainy days. He is getting adjusted to his new foster home where there is a resident 14 year old male yorkie, so the two of them may become buddies, and then he won’t miss his kitty cat friend so much.
We have observed that Brownie is urinating blood and whines as if he is in pain. The whining may also indicate that he is very very sad and misses his family very much. He stays by the front door looking for him - this is so sad. He will see the vet immediately to determine why he is urinating blood. Pray for good news for this sweet boy.
