My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Doogan is currently at a sanctuary in Utah that is being closed. We are hoping to find his forever home before his time runs out. Here is a description from his care giver. Doogan is a sweet red Pit.  He absolutely loves the attention of people and going for long walks.  He will actually cry to get your attention.  Doogan is about two or three years old.  He takes treats very well and has a soft mouth.   Doogan would do best in a home where he would be the only dog, or a home with a submissive female – non-pit.  He would do fine in a home with kids, but he is a very strong dog and could very easily knock down a small child.  He does need some training with his housebreaking and jumping up onto you.  But, otherwise, he is a very well mannered boy.  He sits and listens very well.  He is very much a "want to please" type of dog.  He does prefer to be inside a warm home.  He doesn't like the cold outdoors much.  He is pretty funny that way.  He will go outside to go to the bathroom if you put him out, or to eat.  But, once he is done is runs back in and jumps into his warm blankets to snuggle.

Here is the assessment of Doogan by a trainer in November: "Dogan struck me as having a happy go lucky and slightly submissive personality.  After the initial excitement of getting out, he seemed to enjoy being around us.  Dogs should gravitate toward people.  He did not demonstrate any food possessiveness with people, or other dogs, and seemed to have that want to please attitude.  I'm sure that he will instantly bond with whoever opens their home to him.  He does need to learn some basic manors though.  He is a hefty dog, and needs to learn not to jump on people.  That want to please attitude will help him learn his place in his new pack.  To any dog in a situation such as this, I always recommend basic obedience training right off the bat.  Clear communication between the dog and it's new owner makes things easy on both parties.  I'm sure that Dogan could co-exist with another dog, however I would be choosy about what dog (breed, personality, etc).  An on leash meet and greet can provide a lot of insight as to how dogs will get along.  Provided he learns his manors/basic obedience, I would not hesitate placing Dogan in a home with kids."

Doogan is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. If you are interested in Doogan please fill out and application and return it Sunrise. $250 to loving home.
