Here's what the humans have to say about me:
03/01/14: Pixie Is Now A Little Princess
On an extremely cold morning we received a message from an individual who found a young stray boxer girl near her home. The dog was in poor condition and had no collar or ID tags. She could see she had an obvious skin condition, was very thin, and needed medical attention. We returned her phone call within the hour. Unfortunately, within that same time frame she had spoken to another rescue. They had instructed her to take the pup to a shelter, which she did on her way to work.
When we spoke to the woman she directed us to the shelter, which we contacted immediately. We made arrangements to retrieve the dog after the required “hold time” if her owner did not come forward. As soon as she was free to go, volunteers helped to transport her to a hospital to get the medical attention she needed. She was a tiny little girl, approximately one year old, so we named her Pixie
A complete physical exam and a skin scraping confirmed that Pixie was positive for demodectic mange and treatment was started immediately. Thankfully she was heartworm negative. Pixie responded quickly to care. She has now completed her medical treatment and has had her spay surgery. She recently had to return to the doctor for a possible urinary tract infection. She is taking medication to correct the problem and is doing much better.
Pixie was a tad bit shy when she first came into our Rescue program. Her foster mom has taken her to positive training classes to help her be more sociable and she is becoming more adventurous every day. She has adjusted well in her foster home and has another boxer for company which she enjoys. According to her foster mom, “Pixie is just the most delightful bundle of joy and love you can imagine. All she wants to do is give you a frenzy of kisses. She is playful and likes to cuddle. She likes to please and takes direction well. This pint size princess will brighten any home.”
