Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I am a 4-month-old male Great Dane/German Shepherd mix. I weigh about 33 pounds now, but I still have a whole lot of growing to do. If you're looking for a gentle giant, you've found one! I'm super sweet to everyone I meet. I just love to make new friends! I enjoy chewing on bones, getting pets from all my human companions, and of course napping. As you can see from my photos and video, I have a pretty gnarly incision on my lower back. It's assumed that I was hit by a car or run over since I had tire marks and grease on my right thigh. My back was fractured and I couldn't really walk. I was found wandering the streets and was brought to a local high-kill shelter. Some volunteers there saw that I was in desperate need of a specialist and contacted everyone they could to try and get me out of shelter jail and to a doctor. Thankfully, CageFree came to my rescue! They picked me up and immediately sent me to see their orthopedic surgeon. It was determined that I would need back surgery. I was really scared and nervous, but everyone said that I would feel better afterwards. I'm not going to lie, the first few days after the surgery were rough. I was in a lot of pain. But, it's been about a week now and I already feel so much better. I'm even walking now!!! My gait may not be perfect and I might drag my back paws a little, but things are slowly improving. My doctor says that he is optimistic about my recovering. He says with this type of surgery it's highly likely that I will return to normal or near-normal function. I've been told that I'll always have a little bit of a hunchback though, but I think it adds character. Besides, girls like guys with scars and old wounds, right?! I think I'll be the most popular guy at the dog park with my tales of heroism. Maybe I'll tell them that I sacrificed myself to save a kid or something amazing like that! Who knows, it could be true. But I'm getting a little ahead of myself. Obviously, I still have a lot of recovering to do before I can go on outings like the dog park. I've been told that I need to be on activity restriction. That means no running, jumping, playing, or extended walks. Just quick potty walks throughout the day and rest and relaxation for the next 6-8 weeks. Thankfully I have age on my side! Us youngster always do better with things like this. We heal pretty quickly! Despite all this trauma, I am still the happiest puppy around. You'd never know from my personality that I've had major back surgery. I'm always up for greeting people and my tail never stops wagging. I'm truly an amazing pup! If you don't believe me, just ask all my friends here. They'll vouch for me. :-) A little about what I am looking for...an active family with a lot of patience and love for me. Once I get the all-clear from my doctor I really think I would enjoy playing tug-o-war in the yard, having play dates with my canine companions, and chasing a ball around at the park. I think most importantly though, I need a family that has a secure home that I am safe in. I wouldn't want something like this to happen to me again. If you think that I would make a perfect addition to your family, please contact CageFree to let them know that you would like to schedule a time to come meet me. I can't wait to meet my new forever family!
