Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spencer is about 8 months old and was surrendered to us because his owners got him without considering the cost of caring for a dog and quickly realized they couldn't afford one. He is a very friendly boy that loves attention and seems to like toys. He is young and active, so he needs a home where he can get the exercise, management, and training he needs to be a well-mannered companion. He prefers calm dogs, so he needs to meet any dogs that you might have to make sure they get along. He showed some minor food guarding, so he needs to go to a home with kids 10 and older.
Spencer is currently in our prison dog training program where he is receiving one-on-one training by an inmate that has been taught positive reinforcement dog training. Spencer is learning Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Heel, Polite Greetings, Housetraining, and some tricks. He is due to return to our shelter on Friday March 7th. Anyone interested in adopting Spencer should fill out an adoption application to reserve their space in line to adopt him. Adopters will receive an Adopter Guide outlining the training the dog has received and how to continue working with the dog. Here is your chance to adopt a well-trained dog from a shelter!
All dogs that haven't been previously fixed will be spayed or neutered before going home. Dogs receive rabies, initial DHLPP & bordetella vaccinations, are tested for heartworm, and wormed. They have been temperament tested and also microchipped. Adoption fee is $100, plus adopters must purchase a Lucas County dog license for $25. We add new adoptable dogs on a regular basis, so stop by during regular hours and see who's there. Also be sure to like our facebook page! Lucas County Canine Care & Control. Thanks for considering a shelter dog!
