Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ABBEY IS A YOUNG GIRL JUST UNDER 2 YEARS OLD. SHE IS MARKED VERY PRETTY. SHE WEIGHS ABOUT 50 POUNDS. SHE IS CLEAN AND QUIET (NEVER BARKS). SHE IS GENTLE. SHE IS NATURALLY HOUSEBROKE AND SHE HAS BEEN SPAYED AND HAD HER SHOTS. ABBEY HAS HAD 18 PUPPIES IN HER YOUNG LIFE! ! ! YES! ! 18 PUPPIES . HER STORY IS A UNIQUE ONE. A COUPLE YEARS AGO, AN OLD SHEPARD TYPE DOG WAS WALKED TO THE SHELTER BY THE ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER, ALONG WITH HER 3 PUPS (ABOUT 5 MONTHS OLD) THAT WERE TOTALLY WILD. AND COULDN'T BE TOUCHED. THEY WERE WALKED INTO A KENNEL RUN AND WE SHUT THE GATE BEHIND THEM. ALL BUT ONE! ! THE ONE TRI COLORED PUPPY WAS FAST AND DARTED BACK OUT THE GATE BEFORE IT CLOSED AND RAN AWAY. THAT PUPPY (ABBEY) WENT BACK TO THE WOOD PILE WHERE SHE WAS BORN. FOR MANY MONTHS THEY TRIED TO CATCH HER. SHE WAS TRAP WISE AND COULD NOT BE CORNERED OR CAUGHT OR SNARED. THEN, THE INEVITABLE HAPPENED. ABBEY HAD 9 PUPPIES UNDER THE WOOD PILE. SHE STILL COULDN'T BE CAUGHT. WE GATHERED UP HER PUPPIES AND FOUND THEM ALL HOMES.
6 MONTHS WENT BY AND EARLY NOVEMBER, ABBEY HAD ANOTHER LITTER OF 9 PUPPIES. BY THIS TIME SHE HAD SOME NEIGHBORS FEEDING AND WATERING HER. THEY COULD GET ABOUT 30 FEET FROM HER BUT NOT TOUCH HER. THIS TIME WE PUT HER FOOD NEAR THE TRAP AND IF SHE WANTED TO EAT, SHE HAD TO GO NEAR IT. FINALLY, AFTER TWO WEEKS WE PUT HER FOOD IN THE TRAP AND SURPRISE! ! ABBEY WENT INTO THE TRAP AND WAS CAUGHT.
WE BROUGHT HER HOME WITH US AND SETTLED HER IN THE KENNEL WITH HER 9 BABIES. SHE DIDN'T EVER TRY TO BITE US. AT THIS POINT, SHE WAS ALLOWING US TO TOUCH HER BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T RUN AWAY. FROM DAY ONE, SHE WAS GENTLE AND NEVER OFFERED TO GROWL OR SNAP. SHE TREMBLED AND DUCKED AND TRIED TO HIDE HER HEAD. HER PUPPIES WERE PLACED FOR CHRISTMAS AND THEN THE SERIOUS SOCIALIZING BEGAN WITH ABBEY. SHE LEARNED TO WALK ON A LEASH. SHE TOOK FOOD FROM OUR HANDS. WE BROUGHT HER INTO THE HOUSE. SHE QUIT RUNNING AWAY FROM EVERYONE. WE HAD ABBEY SPAYED LAST WEEK AND SHE WAS GOOD IN THE VET HOSPITAL. SHE WAS GOOD IN THE CAR BUT A LITTLE AFRAID. SHE STILL DUCKS A LITTLE AND WILL NOT ALWAYS COME TO YOU RIGHT AWAY BUT THIS GIRL IS ONE SWEET AND LOVABLE DOG AND WILL MAKE AN EXCELLENT PET. IT IS AMAZING TO THINK THAT SHE LIVED WILD UNDER A WOOD PILE FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF. THE FEE FOR THIS SPECIAL GIRL IS $75.
