Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ms. Maggie came to us last April, just 4 months out of a Puppy Mill. Maggie is just 5.5 years old and small for her breed, at only 30 lbs. In April, Maggie was recovering from having a slipped disc. and was terrified of new people, sounds, smells and the world!
Today, Ms. Maggie is 100% recovered from the injuries, suffered in the puppy mill. She is much more outgoing, and LOVES to Nascar with the Dachshund Hooligans that she hangs out with. While she is still frightened of new sounds and people, she is now able to simply walk by the new people and B-line to her safe spot! She does not like fire crackers, thunder or any loud noises along that line, to include local hunters, carpenters or construction people doing their thing!
Ms. Maggie LOVES being a house dog, and was the fastest trained we've ever seen. We're not sure if it's because she was running from us, to get outside, or she's just that smart. Either way, she will let you know, when it's time to go! That beautiful Basset Hound Howl is to die for! Maggie gets along with all breeds of dogs, although she did bark a lot at a visiting Golden Lab, who was twice as tall... but she's never seen a dog that big before!
We are confident, that Ms Maggie will flourish in the right home. A fence is required, and it would be best if she had a friend to play with. You will have to be patient, to earn her trust, just as with most mill survivors, she's slow to trust. Don't get frustrated, when she won't come in. You may have to carry her for a few times, But, it is 150% worth the extra effort. Maggie is a wonderful dog!
