Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE 1/20/14:
Gertie is a 6 pound, female Yorkie now being fostered in Clearwater, FL. Little Gertie has moved around a lot since her initial introduction into UYR but we plan on being her final pit stop before finding her forever home. As Gertie's new FM, I am having to learn all about her too. Some of the things I have noticed in the first 48 hours....
-She is SO cute! BUT, she knows it & will use that to try and make her own rules.
-She seems to be house trained so far. She used a wee-wee pad the couple of times she did potty inside. (EXCEPT for the first 30 minutes in the house when she wanted to mark a couple of things like a little boy, silly girl)
-Gertie is slow to warm up to each new person. It took 2 hours to approach FD but then she slept on his legs all night only a couple of hours later after obsessively licking his face.
-She will get possessive with treats & food around other dogs. She wants to be the ONLY dog or maybe have one fur-sibling that will let her be bossy.
-When Gertie is nervous or anxious she nips. This is a terrible habit we will be working towards correcting. After the first hour she did not nip at any person in the home but she does continue to growl at the other dogs in the house when they are too close to her. Even if she is trained out of this behavior, Gertie will not go to a home with children, for fear that she could get nervous enough to bite.
-Gertie LOVES a calm environment. She will lay in your lap for as long as you can stand to sit on the couch. Once it is time to go outside she also loves running to the fences and clearing the yard. If she doesn't think your neighbor should rake their yard, she will let them know.
We will keep everyone updated as our home gets to know Gertie better. So far, her perfect home would be with an adult family who has plenty of time to keep up her socialization and manners along with the love she craves. She may or may not like another dog in her family but so far it would have to be her size or larger and very patient with her sometimes insecure moods.
