Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Carl is a 1-2yo intact male Jack Russell Terrier. He is about 17lbs, and probably about 14” tall. He does not seem to have any apparent health issues and appeared to be a clean, well-cared for dog who was used to being in the house. Wants to be right on your heels most of the time, and loves to cuddle next to humans or the other dogs. Will settle on his own with a chew toy or go to sleep. He is provided with chewies and bones and with basic management, he has not gotten into anything or chewed anything. Carl is housebroken and will ask to go outside. He may attempt to mark in a new house, but after just a day or two, once he becomes used to staying in the house, we’ve had no problems. He seems used to confinement and goes in an expen or crate easily. He will bark occasionally if he hears someone go outside, or hears people moving around in the house. Carl does not bark incessantly, settles very nicely and goes to sleep. He can sleep in the crate overnight, but has now been given house privileges at night, and sleeps in the bed or with the other dogs with no problems at all. Carl seems to get along well with other dogs. He will bark and try to appear intimidating on initial meeting, but as long as the meeting is supervised, he has been ok w/in less than five minutes, and we have had no incidents or signs of aggression with other dogs other than being reactive on leash. It is uncertain how he would be with cats, but he appears to have very strong prey drive when he sees squirrels and rabbits. He does not appear to have any resource guarding issues over toys or food. He will readily play tug but did not have a release, so we are working on that. When he’s excited, he can be mouthy and will jump up if you have food or other items in your hands. We think this may be from time spent with children, and/or has been reinforced somehow. It has become considerably less frequent, but he would need to be closely supervised with children to make sure the jumping and grabby behavior is not reinforced. He spent several days with a 12yo and 15yo girl and got along very well with both, with supervision to interrupt when he became over-stimulated. Carl learns extremely quickly. Came with no apparent training and can sit, down, shake R/L, high-five R/L, offer eye contact and leave it. Working on targeting, spins and stay and release and recalls. He will definitely need structured work for reactivity and pulling. He has gotten out the front door once and came right back when called, but would not trust him off leash. He can stay in the yard and does not try to get out, but if left out too long unsupervised, I’d be concerned he could dig. With supervision we have had no issues.
