There’s a lot to love about the adorable, happy-go-lucky Beagle. These small, yet athletic dogs are friendly, adaptable, and full of life. Beagles tend to get along with almost anyone, including kids of all ages, other dogs, and even cats. Their short coat is easy-care, needing just occasional brushing and bathing to look its best. Beagles are wonderful dogs for families, happy to join you on all your adventures, whether camping or just walking to the park. Although you can find Beagles blended with almost any breed, below are some of the most popular Beagle mixes.
Typical Beagles come in two sizes: less than 13 inches tall and less than 20 pounds, or 13 to 15 inches tall and 20 to 30 pounds. They come in traditional hound colors such as tan and white, brown and white, lemon and white, red and white, black and tan, and tricolor. However, Beagle mixes can inherit a wide range of traits from both the Beagle and their other parent breed. This means their size, weight, and coat color can vary significantly. You might find a Beagle mix that’s larger or smaller, lighter or darker, with different coat patterns.
Good news: It’s common to find Beagles crossbred with other purebreds or mixed with multiple breeds, creating one-of-a-kind pups. These Beagle mixes are often available for adoption in animal shelters and through rescue groups.

The Pug-Beagle is rather popular as these two breeds are often mixed together to create a designer dog called the “Puggle.” This dog might not look like either parent, but be a blend of the two. Many Puggles have a pushed-in face, though generally not as extreme as a Pug’s mug. These are sweet, loving, and social dogs.

Commonly called a “Cheagle” in designer-dog circles, the Beagle-Chihuahua mix might look like a very large Chihuahua or nothing like either two breeds. Unless one of the parents was a long-haired Chihuahua, a Beagle-Chihuahua mix will have short hair. This mix needs extra training to overcome some stubborn tendencies.
Fayette County Animal Rescue / Adopt a Pet
A Beagle-Basset Hound mix is usually called a “Bagle Hound” or “Basset Beagle.” Aside from the shortened legs of the Basset Hound, these two breeds look fairly similar. Still, mixes of these two breeds can have somewhat strange proportions — in an adorable way. Bassets and Beagles were bred for similar hunting activities, so mixes will have similar energy and temperaments. A Beagle-Basset Hound combo has a short coat in Hound colors.
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, Inc. / Adopt a Pet
Who wouldn’t love a Beagle wiener-dog mix? Whether you call them “Doxles,” “Beaschunds,” or “Beweenie,” this mix might have the short legs and long body of the Dachshund, or be more moderately built like a Beagle. Coats can vary depending on whether their Doxie parent had a short, long, or wire coat, and Doxles can come in a rainbow of colors. Beagle-Dachshund mixes are usually friendly, social, active, and inquisitive pets.

Called by many different names, including “Labbe,” “Beagador,” “Labeagle,” and “Labbe Retriever,” a Beagle-Labrador Retriever mix is usually medium-sized, but might be larger if Lab genes prevail. The coat may be very short like a Beagle or a bit longer and thicker like the Lab. This mix has a ton of energy and tends to be easy to train, friendly, and social with people of all ages.

The “Beaski” or “Busky,” as a Beagle-Siberian Husky mix is often called, is usually medium-sized with a short or medium coat. Huskies are one of the highest-energy breeds out there, and Beagles are also quite active. So it’s essential to provide a Beaski with vigorous exercise each day. With a lot of training and socialization, this mix can make a wonderful family pet.
Russell Rescue, Inc. / Adopt a Pet
A JRT-Beagle mix is called a Jack-a-Bee or a Jackabee. A Beagle terrier mix like the Beagle-JRT is likely to be full of energy with a touch of mischief thrown into the mix as well. You can help them get enough exercise through long walks and games of fetch in a safely fenced yard. A Jack-a-Bee is generally small- to medium-sized and might have a short, smooth coat or a wiry coat, depending on the JRT parent’s appearance.
Critter Cavalry Rescue / Adopt a Pet
Variously called a “Beagle Shepherd” or “Beagleman,” a German Shepherd + Beagle mix is a medium- to large-sized dog with a coat that is short or medium in length. This mix tends to be intelligent, trainable, and protective.
Callie's Place / Adopt a Pet
This small- to medium-sized mix is similar to the Beagle-Jack Russell mix, offering lots of energy and possibly a touch of scrappiness. Called a “Raggle,” this mix tends to have a short coat and comes in many different colors.
Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills / Adopt a Pet
Usually called a “Beaglebull,” “Beagle Bull, “or “Beagle Pit,” this cross between a Pit Bull and a Beagle is often medium-sized with a muscular build and a short, smooth coat. Like many Beagle mixes, a Beaglebull is high-energy and needs a lot of exercise. They tend to be friendly and outgoing, getting along great with family and visitors.
A Beagle-Poodle mix is the result of attempts to create a Beagle with the non-shedding coat of the Poodle. Often called a “Poogle” or “Beaglepoo,” this mix doesn’t always inherit the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat. It might have the short coat of a Beagle or a long coat that can be wavy or curly. This mix tends to be smart, active, and friendly.
A Corgi-Beagle mix is sometimes called a “Beagi” or “Beagle Corgi.” A Beagi may or may not inherit the short legs and long body of the Corgi. This mix might have short hair like a Beagle or medium-length hair like a Corgi — or somewhere in between. A Corgi-Beagle mix is a combination of a high-energy herding breed and a high-energy Hound, so you can be sure a Corgi-Beagle mix will be active and energetic.
Beagle-Rottweiler mixes are usually called “Reagle” or “Rottweiler Beagles.” They can be medium-sized or quite large if they take after the Rottweiler parent more than their Beagle side. They frequently inherit the Rottweiler’s black-and-tan coloration.
Similar to a Lab-Beagle, a Golden Retriever-Beagle mix is friendly, affectionate, and full of energy. This mix is usually medium-sized and referred to as a “Beago.”
Whether you call it a “Boggle,” “Boglen Terrier,” or “Boston Beagle Terrier,” this mix is small- to medium-sized and might have the pushed-in face of the Boston Terrier. They tend to be loving, friendly pets.

Beagle mixes are great dogs who make terrific pets. Depending on the breeds involved, Beagle mixes can look and act very differently from one another. Here are a few things to know about Beagle mixes:
Beagle mixes can have short hair, long hair, or wiry hair.
Some Beagle mixes might shed a lot like a Beagle and need a lot of brushing. Other Beagle mixes might have a non-shedding or low-shedding coat, if they are mixed with a low-shedding breed.
Because Beagles are highly energetic, most Beagle mixes need a lot of daily exercise to be at their best.
Beagles love to bark and howl, and this tendency may be inherited by Beagle mixes.
If you want to bring home a Beagle mix, consider adopting one, because many different Beagle mixes of all ages are already waiting in animal shelters and rescues for their forever homes. (Though some mixed breed pups in shelters or rescues thought to be part Beagle may actually be other hound mixes.)
The easiest way to adopt a Beagle mix is through a rescue that specializes in Beagles. But there are plenty of Beagle mixes to be found in generalized rescue groups and in animal shelters, too. A great place to start is by creating a breed search on Adopt a Pet. This will show you all the available Beagles and Beagle mixes in your area.
