You’ve welcomed a cat into your life, and now you’re the hero of their fairy tale — giving them the best forever home possible. You can make their story even more enchanting with a Disney-inspired name. From the classic Duchess in The Aristocats to the mischievous Figaro in Pinocchio, Walt Disney’s unforgettable characters capture the spirits of our pets.
“Disney shows us that love is unconditional, differences are celebrated, and everyone deserves a home where they feel safe — just like our pets,” says Samantha Bell, a cat behavior expert at the Best Friends Animal Society and former Disney princess performer at Walt Disney parks. Whether you’re drawn to timeless favorites or modern icons, we’ve got the inspiration for a magical Disney moniker.
Is your cat as charming as Prince Charming or a lovable sidekick like Sven? A name inspired by our favorite male Disney characters might be the perfect fit. But don’t feel limited by tradition: Choose a name that best suits your pet’s whimsical personality, regardless of gender.

Ever met a cat who’s been unfairly labeled a “bad apple,” kinda like the one Snow White took a bite out of? Sure, they might enjoy a little bit of mischief (what cat doesn’t?), but underneath that “bad” facade, you know they’re sweeter than Belle herself. So, why not name your feline after a misunderstood villain? After all, as Bell says, “There’s no such thing as a bad cat.”

If your cat’s black coat is the inspiration for their Disney name, go with Figaro or Binx. Looking for something that reflects their personality? In 101 Dalmatians, Sergeant Tibbs is the brave tabby cat who comes to the rescue. He helps Pongo and Perdita save their puppies from Cruella de Vil and her henchmen, Jasper and Horace.
“Scratching, climbing, hiding, and even attacking are survival mechanisms for cats,” Bell says. While you can’t eliminate these behaviors, you can train your cat to unleash them on appropriate surfaces. Start by placing a scratching post or cat tree near areas they tend to scratch. Attract your cat to the post with catnip, treats, or play. When your cat uses the post, reinforce the behavior with verbal praise, pets, and treats. Finally, provide other areas for your cat to mark their scent, such as self-grooming arches, bunting combs, or cardboard placed at chin level.
Cats, just like the predators in Zootopia, are often misunderstood. They’re both predators and prey, and because they haven’t been fully domesticated the way dogs have, their instincts are still sharp. When cats act out (whether hiding, scratching, or nipping), they’re acting on those instincts and communicating that something is off. “Scratching furniture? Move the location of their scratcher. Knocking things off shelves? Play with a wand toy with them. Not using the litter box? Take them to the vet,” Bell says. “What we may see as ‘bad’ is just them trying to tell us what they need.”
