Welcome to Animal Services

The County of Harnett Animal Services mission is to protect the health and safety of citizens, advocate animal protection / welfare and promote the humane treatment of all animals.

Animal Services has two separate but equal divisions that work together to carry out our mission. Animal control efforts are concentrated on rabies control and public safety through enforcement of the County’s Animal Control Ordinance, capture of non-immunized dogs and cats, and gaining control of roaming livestock.

The Shelter division's efforts are concentrated on the special attention to safety, well-being and health of animals in the shelter’s charge. Additionally, the Shelter division oversees vaccination, adoptions and shelter volunteer programs.

Current Animal Services Operating Hours are 8am - 5 pm.

Shelter is open for Public Adoptions & Drop Offs on:
Mon, Tues, Th & Fri: 1 pm - 4 pm

Shelter is open for Public Adoptions Only on:
Saturday 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

1 Year Rabies Vaccination Given by appointment only!

Mon, Tues, Th & Fri: 11 am - 11:45 am

Currently, the staff consists of a Program Manager, four Officers, and two Shelter Attendants.

Required Fees

Dogs and Cats under 4 months of age $ 30.00

Dogs and Cats 4 months and older $36.00 this includes a 1 year rabies vaccination

1 year rabies vaccine-- $ 6.00

Microchip-- $ 10.00

Spay and Neuter fee ( Required)

All animals will be s/n before being released to adopters, unless designated rescue only.

Cats (female spay) -- $ 55.00

Cat ( Male neuter) --$ 35.00

Dog (female spay) under 75lbs -- $ 75.00

Dog (female spay) over 75lbs-- $ 140.00

Dog ( male neuter) under 75lbs-- $ 75.00

Dog ( male neuter) over 75lbs-- $ 140.00

Vaccination, Heartworm Test , Feline Test and Wormer fee

These are upon request only must make payment before service.

Wormer under 25lbs --$ 5.00 ( Puppies and Kittens will be wormed upon intake )

Wormer over 25lbs to 100 lbs-- $ 10.00

Wormer over 100lbs-- $ 20.00

Feline test-- $ 15.00

Heartworm test-- $ 10.00

Canine Combo Vaccine-- $ 10.00 ( Puppies will be vaccinated upon intake)

Feline Combo Vaccine-- $ 15.00 ( Kittens 8 weeks of age will be vaccinated upon intake )

Animal Services Adoption Policy for Military Veterans

Must have valid Military ID (DD form 214, VFW ID, Disable Veteran ID, Retiree ID or proof on Drivers license).

After showing valid ID these are the only fees that will be waived ($ 36.00 Adoption and $ 6.00 Rabies vaccination ).
