West Coast Great Pyrenees Foundation

Dog rescue in Santa Cruz, CA

We formed the West Coast Great Pyrenees Foundation to find/keep forever homes for Great Pyrenees.

When we looked back at our own experiences, as well as potential fosters and adopters we'd met, we knew that we needed to do a little bit more...

- What if we were able to help build a taller fence, so that a family didn't feel they had to give up their beloved Pyr?

- What if we had a Pyr Buddy program, so that there was someone you could reach quickly, to ask a question?

Our mission is to promote the greater good of the Great Pyrenees breed through:

- Education - for current and prospective Great Pyrenees owners, about the wonderfully unique qualities of the breed, to enable every home to be a forever home.

- Rescue - provide foster care, behavioral coaching and placement into caring, forever, homes

- Community/Social activities - serve as a supportive community of fans and owners to celebrate the Great Pyrenees breed.

Additional adoption info

West Coast Great Pyrenees has a dedicated group (PyrPaw Rescue) whose sole mission is committed to finding lifetime placements for the dogs in our care.

To ensure a good fit between a potential adopter and the individual dog, many factors are taken into consideration – the age, temperament, and history of the dog is evaluated to provide the best match to the particular living situation of each potential adopter.

All West Coast Great Pyrenees dogs are chipped, neutered, and fully vetted prior to becoming available for adoption. There is a $395 adoption fee for each dog.

The next step is a phone interview to review the application and to schedule a home visit and a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting.

The home visit provides an opportunity for a PyrPaw Rescue volunteer to confirm that your situation is a good one for the dog and to provide advice and guidance so you will be well prepared to bring your new family member home.

Post adoption, West Coast Great Pyrenees will remain an active partner to provide assistance and support during the settling in period and beyond.
