Barkie's Legacy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue, dedicated to the rescue of large dogs (the hardest to place) from being put down in the various animal control agencies or found as a stray throughout the southeast.
Creating Barkie's Legacy has been a dream of Jen Bark (yes, the last name is real), a Florida transplant with a passion for saving the lives of man's best friend. Jen rescued her own dog, Jasper, a few years back and from that point on, she was drawn to the cause and strays seem to be drawn to her!
The name Barkie's Legacy, comes from Jen’s wish to honor her mother, Barbara Bark, a wonderful person to whom family meant everything and loved dogs as well. Barbara went by the nickname, Barkie, given to her by her husband, the love of her life.
Barbara passed away in 2008 and creating a dog rescue in her memory was a great way to pay tribute to her.
Barkie's Legacy rescues/rehabilitates dogs, finding temporary homes for them until their forever homes can be found. People say, "You can't save them all" however, Barkie's Legacy refuses to believe in that adage and does everything in their power to give all dogs the chance to find a loving home to call their own.
We are amazed at the amount of dogs that are unwanted, unloved or abused, so we're trying to make a difference one dog at a time!

Adoption Process:
All prospective adopters need to fill out and submit an Adoption Application.
We believe our dogs and puppies deserve the best of homes, so you must have great references and agree to a home visit.
Adoption Application
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots prior to being adopted (unless they are too young, then an agreement is made). Every dog is heartworm tested and treated along with given the proper flea/tick medication.
An adoption fee is charged to help defray veterinarian and other required expenses.
We made a promise to our babies that they will never have to worry again, so adopters will have to sign a contract agreeing to take great care of that animal. If an adoption does not work out for any reason, the animal must be returned to Barkie's Legacy.
