Shelter FAQs

We serve the City of Pell City, St. Clair County and the cities of Ashville, Lincoln, Odenville, Ragland, Riverside and Springville.

The Pell City Animal Control Center is a temporary home to stray or lost animals during the Alabama State mandated 7 day holding period. Once the holding time is over, any unclaimed animal will be evaluated for possible adoption. We encourage everyone to contact us if they are interested in adopting an unclaimed stray or lost pet, prior to the end of their 7 day hold. Animals with special needs or medical conditions will be considered for adoption, with additional counseling provided to the prospective adopter.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees are as follows:

Cats/Kittens: Adoption fee for cats and kittens is $90.00, this includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccine, de-worming, one flea/tick treatment, FelV/FIV test (for cats over one year) and microchipping. (Vaccinations dependant upon the age of the kitten)

Dogs/Puppies: Adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $125.00, this includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccine, de-worming, one flea/tick treatment, heartworm test (for dogs over one year) and microchipping. (Vaccinations dependant upon the age of the puppy)

Will my pet be spayed or neutered? If the pet you choose to adopt is not previously altered, you will be required to sign a binding contract agreeing to have the pet altered within 30 days from the date of adoption or by the age of sexual maturity (6 months of age)

There are several area programs that offer assistance with spaying and neutering, if you would like more information on these programs please ask our staff and they will be glad to assist you.

We realize that this policy is not acceptable to some, and wish to point out that it is in accordance with State of Alabama law. It will not be a long term solution, and in the future we intend to have a program in place where all pets leave the Center spayed and/or neutered.
