General Adoption Questions

*How much does it cost to adopt a Dog?

Our adoption fees vary depending on the age of the dog. All of our adoption fees include age-appropriate vet care, including spay/neuter surgery for all dogs over 6 months of age, DHLPP shots, rabies shots, and microchip. The costs for adopting are provided below:

Puppy (6 months and under) - $300
Small Breed Adult Dogs - $300
Young/Adult Dog Medium/Large Breed - $250
Senior dog - $50-$150 based on age and medical condition
You may pay your adoption fee via check, cash, Paypal or money order. There will be a $25 fee for returned checks.

*How do I adopt a dog?

We will ask you to fill out an adoption application. Once we receive your application, we will give you a call to walk you through the rest of the application process ie: vet/personal reference phone calls, meet & greet, and home check. The application process helps us match each of our dogs with the right life styles of each family. If you rent, we will check with your landlord to make sure that dogs are permitted and that the dog that you're adopting wouldn't violate any size or breed restrictions. If all goes well from here, we will schedule a home visit to make sure the environment where the dog will live is safe and answer any questions you may have. We will guide you on how to make the transition as easy and stress-free as possible. We try to ensure our adopters do not feel alone in this. We understand adopting is a big commitment and responsibility, we will be here any time you need us. We want to make sure this process does not feel overwhelming to all parties. This process typically takes less than a week but can take longer to finalize depending on the dog and how many applications have been submitted.

*Do you adopt out-of-state?

Yes - but this is mainly to the surrounding areas of South Jersey. However, priority will be given to local adopters.

*How old do I have to be to adopt Dog?

You need to be 21 years old to adopt.

*If I am the first one to apply, will I get him/her?

We do our very best to match our dogs with their forever families. We will be as open and honest about our selection process as we can. If for some reason the dog you selected does not fit your needs, we are dedicated to finding you the right companion.

*Do dogs have to be spayed or neutered?

All dogs over the age of 6 months will be spayed or neutered before they are adopted out. Puppies adopted under the age of 6 months must be spayed/neutered by their adopter by a date agreed upon in the adoption contract. We will follow up to make that all of our puppies get spayed/neutered.

*What do I do if my dog is having trouble?

Please reach out to us, we really feel the sooner the better. Many times people will have a small problem and try to work on it but it does not resolve, by the time the rescue is contacted, the problem is much bigger. We are committed to the dog and your family. We have lots of resources to share with you and can make trainer recommendations as well.

*What do I do if I can't keep my dog?

If for any reason, you cannot keep your dog, let us know as soon as possible. We will begin the process of taking them back. However, we want you to remember that we are always available before that decision needs to be made. One of our missions is to ensure that our Balanced Buddies stay in their forever homes. We will be here to support you and your buddy no matter what. Also, please realize that we are a foster based rescue and we will need time to find a foster if one is not readily available.
