The shelter works to house and make available for adoption both owner surrender animals and stray animals. The shelter is open admissions, and space is limited. The purpose of the shelter is ultimately to make available for rescue or adoption, the animals they receive in their care. The purpose of this site is to network the animals to potential adopters and rescues. Our hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday & Friday 7 AM to 3:30 PM, Tuesday & Thursday 7 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 12 PM.

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is the county run and funded shelter for Mt Sterling and surrounding communities in Montgomery County, KY. The shelter is located in Mt Sterling at 115 Adena Dr. They can be reached at 859-498-8751. The Shelter is an open admission shelter that receives owner surrenders and stray animals. All animals are considered urgently in need of adoption or rescue. This shelter is a very rescue friendly, and willing to work with area rescues in order to save lives.

The adoption process requires an application and payment of adoption fee. The animal is then scheduled to be spayed/neutered at the local vet. Once application, fee, and spay./neuter are complete the new owner may pick up the pet at the veterinarian's office during business hours. The fee is $68.00 for dogs and puppies and $55.00 for cats and kittens. The pull fee for legitimate, 5013c rescue organization is $5.00 for dogs and puppies and free for cats and kittens. The pull fee helps to offset the cost of initial 5-way vaccination given to incoming canines.
