The SEK Humane Society was started in 1973 with a very small building housing only around 20 dogs and cats. Now because of wonderful donations we have a bigger building and are able to house 90-95 dogs and 35-40 cats. We are a non-profit and are run on donations and a few grants. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have a deep passion for the homeless animals in our area and work hard everyday to help better their lives and educate the public.

The SEK Humane Society is a non- profit organization who serves the Southeast Kansas area. The HS is able to take animals into its shelter as spots become available. We are not an open intake shelter. We are able to take in dogs or cats from out of state as well, and do not charge an intake fee only a donation in the amount the surrendering party can provide. We do not euthanize to make room for new animals so we are always running at Max capacity. We ask that anyone looking for that new furry family member come and see us and let us help you find that purfect pet! Our business hours are Monday thro Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm to 4 pm.
