Half-Way Home Canine Rescue, Inc

Dog rescue in Watha, NC

"Half-Way Home Canine Rescue, Inc." began as a transport service for animals being sent to Rescues, out-of-state, from Pender County Animal Shelter. We slowly transformed into a "temporary haven from the shelter until a forever family is found". We pull dogs from the shelter, get them spayed/neutered, properly vetted and up-to-date on needed vaccines, assist in medical treatments and rehabilitation. In May of 2014, we revamped our kennels to meet NC Department of Agriculture standards to become a licensed Private Shelter. (NC157). We also have received our USDA transport license, so we can transport door-to-door. We have limited our trips to 250 miles one-way,(500 miles roundtrip) and you will be charged for a round trip at $.25 a mile, up to four dogs. We can meet other USDA transporters or Pilot N Paws flights within this mileage circle. Call us for more details. We still rescue dogs from the local shelters, get them fully vetted, and ready for a new home, and also provide quarantine lodging, transport to medical appointments, transport to small airports in the area for relocation of our dogs flying out to other Rescues.
Thank you, all, again, for your help, encouragement and donations. Your donations are tax-deductible and we will be happy to send you a receipt for your generosity.

Additional adoption info

We interview each adoptive family by phone and email, as well as a "face-to-face" meeting at our facility. We would like all members of the family, and any four-legged members come to meet the new addition to the family. We require an appointment for you to see any of the dogs here. We allow time for everyone to make sure they get along with each other before they go home. We are now a Siberian Husky/ Malamute Rescue only. We have a variety of colors, sizes and ages, and a great big back yard for you to play with your new family member before making your decision.
All of our canine "kids" are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. They are up-to-date on vaccines and have had a rabies shot and tag, if of age. Each dog over eight months old has been tested for heartworms and treated, if positive, or put on a heartworm prevention, as well as flea/tick prevention. Dogs younger than 8 months are given heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention as soon as possible. A health record is included in the adoption package. Adoption fees are $400 for adult dogs. We no longer have puppies. Adoption fees and donations can now be cash or debit/credit cards. Sorry we don't take checks. Our fees allow us to get another dog ready for a new family. Donations are always needed and welcomed to help with extra medical expenses that the "kids" may have.
