Forgotten Friends

Animal rescue in Kalamazoo, MI

Forgotten Friends was founded in February 2014 by a small group of people who wanted to rescue pets that were at high risk in our county shelters.

We primarily take in pets with higher cost medical conditions or those that would be euthanized due to space at local county animal controls.

Rescue FAQs

We serve Kalamazoo and Surrounding Areas.

Forgotten Friends is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the forgotten and overlooked adoptable pets in our local animal control shelters. These particular pets are at high risk for being euthanized. Although perfectly adoptable, many of these loving pets are euthanized each year due to limited cage space and overcrowding.

Our goal is to help these overlooked pets by getting them into foster homes where their wonderful personalities can come to life, and by getting them into the public eye through adoption events where people can meet them and see just how wonderful and loving they are!
While in the shelter, many of these dogs and cats can appear sad, timid, depressed and therefore are often overlooked by potential adopters. Certain breed stereotypes, minor but easy to treat health issues, and even coloring of an animal can all play a part in why they may be overlooked at the shelter, despite their wonderful and loving personalities.

At Forgotten Friends, we get them out into the world, where they can play, socialize and get used to life in a home with foster families. That way, when they do find their forever family, the transition into a new home is easy peasy!! We give them a chance to show the world what a great best friend they will make anyone willing to give them a second chance at life!!

Additional adoption info

We are a Volunteer Based Rescue Organization. We try to return phone calls as soon as one of our members is able.

We have an adoption application that is required to start the adoption process.

This application opens the door for conversation between you and our rescue so we can find the perfect pet for you.

We do take the right to ask extra questions during the interview process or do a home check to be sure that each animal is going to the best home!

All of our pets are in foster homes. The best way to meet them is to come to adoption events. If not able we can help set up meet and greets with our Forgotten Friends that work out for you and the foster.

Once you find the perfect family member we have an adoption contract that must be filled out and an adoption fee that is payed at this time!
