Shelter FAQs

Wallingford Animal Control is committed to being an asset to our community and working with residents to keep our beautiful town safe.

Additional adoption info

1. Find Your Friend - The first step is to come to the shelter and meet your potential new forever friend. We require that all family members come to the shelter to meet the dog or cat. It is extremely important that we see how the animal interacts with all members of the household. This includes other pets in the home.
2. Fill Out an Application - If you are interested in moving forward with adopting a pet, you must fill out an application. Please note: We will not process an application without first meeting you and having you meet the pet of interest. Applications require two personal references, and a veterinary reference. For dog adoptions we require a home visit. We reserve the right to request a home visit for cat adoptions as well.
3. Bring Your Friend Home - Once an application has been approved, we will make arrangements for the cat or dog to be altered if applicable. All animals must be spayed or neutered prior to going to their new home.

Please Note: Adoptions are not treated as "first come, first served." We reserve the right to deny any application.
