Eastern Herding Dog Rescue

Dog rescue in Richmond, VA

Eastern Herding Dog Rescue is a small but mighty group that was founded in 2014 in Richmond, VA as the brainchild of Ashley Castro. A longtime lover of all things herding dog, she had been involved in Border Collie rescue since 2007 and general rescue since 2004 and helped rehome many canine companions. She made a plan to help her favorite group of dogs find their place in the world with the people that love them. Lucky for her she had some like-minded friends, and together they opened their hearts and homes to herding dogs in need.

We strive to set ourselves apart. Our foster homes are all trained in basic canine behavior and training techniques to properly rehabilitate our dogs and prepare them for their new homes. All of our foster homes use positive reinforcement training techniques to train our dogs and have firsthand experience with herding breeds. We have a behaviorist we partner with to assess our dogs, we enroll them in manners classes, and we appropriately socialize them in real world situations. We conduct phone and face to face interviews and meet and greets with potential adopters to ensure that the dog they're interested in is the perfect match and vice versa! We know our dogs best and want to adopt out the best dogs!
