Panhandle Equine Rescue, Inc. (PER) was founded by a small group of concerned citizens and became incorporated on February 1, 2005 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Shortly thereafter, PER became authorized by the court of Escambia County, Florida to investigate reports of equines in trouble. Our Mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide adoption services for abused, neglected and abandoned equines.
PER relies on private and public donations, grants and fundraising. Our volunteers write grants, hold fundraisers and membership drives to raise the funds needed to rescue these gentle giants.
Due to poor economic times, limited donations are coming in while PER is still receiving more reports of equines in trouble. Equines previously adopted or fostered are being returned due to financial hardship of their sponsors. Funding and recruiting volunteers are critical for PER's program to continue.
