HISTORY
Background
In 2006, a group of concerned citizens met with the city mayor about animal welfare issues in Fort Morgan. From this meeting it was decided that it was time to create a humane society for the city’s homeless pets. We received our 501 (c ) 3 status in March of 2007. FMHS negotiated to assume the operations of the animal shelter. We took over duties August of 2009.
Accomplishments
FMHS has made a huge difference in how animals are cared for in Fort Morgan. We have taken over the city animal shelter, spayed and neutered thousands of dogs and cats, created a foster care program, and have found forever homes for many, many orphaned animals.
We include the community of Fort Morgan as we do this work. We have had numerous volunteers, fund raising events, many positive newspaper articles, and generous donations from businesses and individuals.
