Prison Pet Partnership enriches the lives of incarcerated individuals, animals, and the community through the human-animal bond.
PPP's Paroled Pets program provides dogs that are unable to be credentialed as service, facility, or therapy dogs an opportunity to be adopted by a loving family. By partnering with local shelters and rescues, the program also provides dogs and cats (some at risk of euthanasia) opportunity for intentional training and handling with the goal of adoption. The program also satisfies the hands-on training requirement for Program Participants pursuing Dog Handler I Certification.
Paroled Pets live with their assigned trainer while receiving training and handling - building on the human-animal bond and creating positive mental health impacts for both the trainer and the paroled pet. This exchange of trust and love is rehabilitating and increases the likelihood for success in adoption.
