Lil Rascal's Pet Rescue originated in Denver, Colorado as Adopt A Pet in 1970. That was 40 years ago! It all started with a coyote who had been hit and left to die along with her 6 pups on a cold snowy night on an icy bridge. I picked them up buried the mother and 4 of the pups. The other two lived another week before they died. I thought, people just don't care about animals, someone has to and I guess that is me. I couldn't believe people would do something like that. I had to try and save all the animals I could. We found dogs, cats on the roads and took them home and tried to find the owner. No one claimed them.. Then we rented a small building and opened a pet store. And we called it Adopt A Pet. Then we got into wildlife, a pet alligator that the people just couldn't keep any longer cause he got to big. Then we went to reptiles, exotics and primates. We lived in Alaska, Montana, California where I would rescue any and all animals that I could. People brought us raccoons, skunks, ferrets, a baby wolf, coyotes, birds that had been injured. In California we rescued horses, crows, aquatic animals and so on.
Since moving here from California we (me and my daughter Dawnna) have seen so many more animals being tossed out like a bag of trash, then their was in California. And we thought California was bad. We rescue because there is so many out there that are being tossed out on the street to starve and be killed instead of them trying to find a home for them or take them to a local shelter. We have been doing rescues for 40 years. We believe all animals deserve a loving and permanent home.
We run on your donations & get no government funding. We also have a resale store on the premises to fund some of the care of the animals.
We do this to help animals that are abused, neglected and starved. To let people know there is someone who cares and will help with an animal that is in need of shelter, food and medical help. That they don't have to throw them out on the street to get smashed or eaten by a coyote. "WE CARE"

Additional adoption info
We start with a meet & greet, you call and make an appointment to come out and meet the animal, fill out the adoption form and sign, we go out and do a house check and we can even give you a 24-36 hour trial period to see how it is going to work in your home and with other family members. If adoption is granted a adoption fee is paid and you take them home. Then their is like a probation period, where after two weeks there is another home visit.
Then we check back in 60 days to see how everything is going. We will give you a call 48 hours ahead before the scheduled visit. Then in a year from the date of adoption we make our final home visit. If for any reason they are unable to keep them they are to be returned to Lil Rascal's Pet rescue & Hospice Care.....They can NOT be given away, rehomed OR sold.
