Mountain High Collie and Sheltie Rescue

Dog rescue in Littleton, CO

Mountain High Collie and Sheltie Rescue started in in late September of 2013. We are headquartered in Littleton, CO. Kathy Downey is our President, Judith Hughes is Vice President, Kim Arrandale is our Treasurer and Michele Fricke is our Secretary. We are an all volunteer board. Each of us has a minimum of 8 years experience in the dog rescue field. We are licensed by the state of Colorado and we have received our 501c3 designation. We work to help dogs who need rehoming, who are lost, who have been surrendered by their families and we work to find them the best possible new forever homes. We are not a shelter and dogs are never kept in cages. Each dog we take into rescue goes to a trained foster home where they can be cared for, healed, evaluated, socialized and sometimes trained. They are also loved in these foster homes and for some of the dogs we bring into our rescue, all of this love and attention is new to them. We do all of this because we are all animal lovers and we believe that everyone deserves a good home.

Rescue FAQs

Our rescue group is located in Littleton, CO but we serve a much broader area. We cooperate with collie and sheltie rescues and shelters around the country and we frequently take in dogs from a great distance from Colorado. Through our website and Facebook page we hope to reach out to people who would like to give a loving and caring forever home to one of our dogs.

Additional adoption info

To help ensure the best possible placement for our dogs we require that the potential adopter fill out a thorough application. Applications that do not specify any of our available dogs will be held until the applicant notifies us that there is an available dog they would like to adopt. We keep applications active for 90 days. If that time passes, please contact us to keep your application active. We do not place animals in homes where pets are not properly vaccinated and are not on heart worm preventative, spayed or neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. We only place dogs in homes where they will be indoor pets and never left outdoors when no one is home. A fenced yard is required. We do not approve invisible/electric fences, dog runs or tie out chains. Our Adoption fee is $325.00 for puppies under 12 months, $250.00 for an adult dog between the ages of 1 and 8 years old and $150.00 for an adult dog of nine years or older. This includes a comprehensive veterinary physical exam, spay or neuter, rabies shot, Distemper/Parvo combo shot, Bordatella shot, heartworm test, Microchip, Grooming, Dental cleaning if needed, any other medical needs that must be addressed and a temperament evaluation. A medical history record accompanies each dog. Please note: MHCSR will require spay/neuter surgery to be performed when puppy reaches six to seven months of age or before. You may choose to take the Collie or Sheltie to a MHCSR approved veterinarian, where fees will be paid by MHCSR. If you would prefer to take the Collie or Sheltie to your own veterinarian, MHCSR will reimburse you, upon proof of payment for an amount equal to rescue rate at a MHCSR veterinarian. No dogs are adopted out without a home visit. Please visit our website at www.mhcsr.org to learn more about us and fill out an adoption application.
