Pinehurst, NC, September 16, 2014: The Farley Foundation, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation
established in January 2014 for animal welfare purposes (“The Foundation”) has received favorable
determination from the Internal Revenue Service, as of September 5, 2014, declaring The Foundation
exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Donors may now make tax deductible contributions and bequests to the Foundation.

The Foundation’s principals who named it in memory of their first shelter dog, Sir Farley of Pinehurst, rescued minutes before being euthanized, Betsy Ficarro, President and Chief Operating Officer, said: “Our mission will be to reduce unnecessary euthanasia of otherwise unwanted, adoptable animals in Moore County and elsewhere in North Carolina.
We will operate in association with owners Debbie Adoree and Jim Dickenson of Seven Lakes Kennels in nearby Seven Lakes, who have agreed to provide boarding space at their facility to help us fulfill our mission.”
John Ficarro, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated: “Our primary objective will be to provide temporary, transitional accommodations for animals identified for rescue but we will undertake
other rescue opportunities and promote local animal welfare issues when the need arises. We also intend to
work with and support other local rescue organizations.”
Mr. and Mrs. Ficarro have supported a number of local and national animal welfare organizations for several
years through their substantial volunteer work and financial contributions. John Ficarro, a retired corporate
attorney from New York has routinely provided pro bono legal services and other support while Betsy Ficarro
has given time and resources working with these groups to provide animal care and promote adoptions. A
retired senior flight attendant, she most recently was the Volunteer Coordinator at the Animal Center of Moore
County, North Carolina.
