PUPS - Prevent Unwanted Pets

Animal rescue in Cat Spring, TX

PUPS was formed in 2003 because there were no shelters in Austin, Colorado, Waller or any other counties west of Houston. There are a couple of shelters now, but they are very small. Our goal is do reduce the number of unwanted pets in our area by encouraging spay and neuter and helping to pay the bill for people who cannot afford to spay or neuter their animals on their own. We get calls daily to help place animals and have recently stepped up our ability to do this with the use of foster homes.

Rescue FAQs

PUPS is primarily a spay/neuter assistance program. We have helped "fix" over 14,000 dogs and cats using 25 vet clinics in eight counties west of Houston. We also foster as many dogs and cats as possible. PUPS does adoptions almost every Saturday at Petco on Mason Rd in Katy, Petco Cinco Ranch and at the Rosenberg Petco.

Additional adoption info

After screening and filling out the adoption form, the adoption fee for puppies and kittens is $35. When the puppy or kitten is 5-6 months old, you pay an additional $35 and we pay the rest of the spay or neuter. We do a followup phone call to make sure this happens. We make sure the pup or kitten is current on vaccinations, worming, etc. Most animals over 6 months of age will have already been spayed or neutered, be on heartworm prevention, be current on vaccinations, etc. The adoption fee for these animals is $70.
