Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc.

Dog rescue in Huntingdon Valley, PA

Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. is a 100% volunteer organization to rescue brachycephalic dogs (Boston Terriers, Pugs, Shitz Tzus, and English Bulldogs). We are currently in the application process to be registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit brachycephalic breed rescue based in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.

We opened Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. because it is difficult to adopt in the tri-state area. We adopt and rescue in Southeastern PA, NJ, DE & MD. At this time, PPSNR does not handle long distance or out-of-state adoptions.

Our mission is to rescue from owners who have chosen to surrender their dog to a rescue. PPSNR will also rescue dogs from shelters. Our ultimate goal is to place them into a good, loving “furever” home. Like many rescues, we rescue for the life of the dog. This means that if an adoption should not work out for any reason, the dog can come back into our rescue at any time.

Short Nose Dogs are often misunderstood. These small dogs have big personalities. They snort, snore, play, but they do not make good outside pets or jogging partners.

Quite often a brachycephalic dogs grunts and snorts are misunderstood signs of aggression with medium and large breed dogs. We do adopt to families with medium and large breed dogs on a case by case basis.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions by email: info@ppsnrescue.org or by phone: (866) 923-8432.

At Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, we believe in doing what is best for all the dogs in our care.

The Adoption Process
The following outlines the adoption process for Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. Please understand that the process is intended to provide the best outcome for both the rescued dog and the new adoptive home. Thank you in advance for understanding.

First a few requirements:
1. We will not adopt a rescue dog into a home with any of the following conditions:
a) Unaltered Pets
b) Pets not current with veterinarian care (heartworm prevention, vaccinations, etc).
c) A home with medium and/or large breed dog(s) are considered on a case by case basis. However, it unfortunately has been the experience of our organization that Pugs have been attacked and/or killed by medium/large breed dogs with sweet dispositions. Pugs grunts and snorts are mistaken for signs of aggression with medium/large breed dogs. Please do not intentionally leave your large breed dog off the application, or hide it during the home visit. This has been done in the past and has had unfortunate outcomes. We come to these decisions after deliberate and introspective thought, thank you for respecting this requirement.

2) The adoption Process:
a) We understand that you are anxious to get your new dog just as soon as possible. However, we are an all volunteer organization, which does impact the speed at which we can work!! We promise to move as quickly as we can to determine if you are an acceptable applicant and to match you with the most appropriate dog. We do not use a “first come, first served” approach.
b) Application– you may either complete the application online or by mail.
c) Your application will be reviewed for completeness and appropriateness. You will receive a response letting you know we have received it, and possibly requesting more information or clarification.
d) If you have specified a particular dog, we will let you know at this time if the dog has already started the adoption process with another applicant.
e) When the application is deemed acceptable, our adoption coordinators review the application to see if there is a match with the dog you have specified or any others that we currently have in foster care.
f) If we feel we have a match, an adoption coordinator will contact you.
g) References–all of your references will be contacted, and if you currently have Pets, one of your references must be your Veterinarian.
h) Home visit —either a PPSNR representative or representative from another rescue organization and a dog will perform a home visit. This is approximately a one hour casual visit to your home with all of the members of the household. This helps us evaluate not only the physical surroundings, but get a chance to interact with everyone. Please make sure that all pets are present for the home visit. It is a great opportunity to talk about bringing your new addition home, what kinds of things may occur with the rescued dog, nutrition, Vet care, obedience training, etc.
i) After you have cleared the home visit phase, you will be contacted by the foster home of your potential pet. After the conversation with the foster home, a final determination of your application will be made. If approved, you will be informed when and where you can pick up your new Pet. Sometimes we can arrange to conduct the home visit with the dog you are interested in adopting. If everyone gets along, you will have the opportunity to adopt.
j) At the time of adoption you will complete an adoption contract which outlines future responsibilities for you and PPSNR. The adoption fee must be paid with a money order. You will receive copies of all Vet records in our possession.
k) What does your adoption fee go towards?
Vet services
Updating vaccinations
Spay/Neuter
Heartworm and Flea preventative

Some pugs vet care can only cost us around $100 while others can cost us well into the thousands. Vet care is 90% of our expenses.

Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. is applying to be 501 c 3 non-profit organization. Currently all donations maybe tax deductible.

Thank you so much for wanting to adopt a rescue dog from our organization. We understand that the process may seem “too much”, but it is the result of years of experience and the desire to place our rescued Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and Bulldogs in to their forever homes.

Who will have access to your information?
Your responses will only be used in rescue-related activities but may be posted to a private Web site and may be read by a network of PPSNR rescue workers and coordinators. Your information may also be transmitted via e-mail to the same. If you are serious about adopting a rescue and you express interest in a particular dog, expect interviews, reference checks and possibly a home-visit from a PPSNR coordinator before the adoption is finalized. We thank you for your interest in pug rescue.

Spaying/Neutering Policy
It is PPSNR policy to not adopt our rescues into homes with unaltered pets. While spaying and neutering is a personal choice, it is in the best health interest of a pet to be spayed or neutered. It cuts down on chances of testicular cancer in males – not to mention the marking and mounting issues when a new pet is brought in – as well as mammary tumors and cancer in females. If you are unclear about the benefits, please speak with your vet about the issue. If your pet is not spayed or neutered and you are unwilling to have it done, please do not continue the application process unless that pet is elderly or an active show dog. The spay/neuter status of all current pets in any adoptive home is verified through the vet reference and no adoption is approved until this is done.

Adoption Disclaimer – Required Reading Before Proceeding
Neither Philly Pug & Short Nose Rescue, Inc. (PPSNR), nor its volunteers, coordinators, representatives, Internet Service Provider and its officers, employees, contractors and representatives; and any other person, firm or corporation involved with the efforts or business of this corporation, shall be held liable or responsible for any claims or causes of action incurred as a result of the provision or restriction of information, services, contacts, adoptions, fostering, veterinary care or by the actions of any and all dogs transferred or referenced herein.

Moreover, there is absolutely no guarantee made or implied that any person requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through PPSNR, or posted on PPSNR’s Website, will be allowed to adopt a PPSNR dog. Rather, all adoption applications are subject to acceptance based on a review process that may require collecting information from references and visiting the applicant’s home. All decisions on placing dogs in adoptive and foster homes are based solely on the judgment of the volunteers and coordinators of PPSNR and adoption applications submitted through this form are often denied for various reasons. PPSNR reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care whether in, or being placed in, a foster or adoptive home or other facility.

Please be prepared to correspond with the adoption coordinator via email. Due to restrictions on application volume, time, and the general nature of rescue, almost all of our correspondences are done by email. Please check your email regularly to see if you have been contacted.
