Our volunteer group has been helping the animals in the Los Banos shelter for over 15 years. We handle all adoptions, assist in the care of the animals, assist with medical care and treatment. Due to severe budget cuts over the last few years, much of the administrative and physical labor is handled by volunteers.
We are there to help the animals who have no voice of their own. We work to save as many as we can by networking with rescues and other shelters. We work to educate the public about spaying & neutering and responsible pet care.

The Los Banos Shelter houses animals from within the city limits. Our animals came to our shelter as either strays (running loose) or as owner surrendered.
We hold animals for 5 days - on the 5th day the animal may be adopted, sent to rescue or possibly euthanzied. Please do not wait until the 5th day when inquiring about an animal.
The Los Banos Volunteers for Animals is the support organization that provides auxillary care of the animals as well as administrative duties.
Additional adoption info
Our volunteer will ask some questions to get to know you and what type of animal that would best fit with your lifestyle and family. We do have an adoption contract requiring basic care, veterinary care, neutering, and the safety of the animal being adopted.
We do make inquiries to landlords if you are a renter to verify that the property is approved to have a pet. We do require home visits with some animals.
Our adoption fee is $15-$25 in addition to spay or neuter fees (which average $100 to $150 depending on type, sex and weight of the animal).
